Thanksgiving In the United States

There are many stories about Thanksgiving Day and most of them
are written with a very slanted view according to the attitude of the writer.
The Indians would tell us one story and the Pilgrims would have us believe
yet another tale, of course from their view, therefore, I decided
to look at Thanksgiving Day in my own way.  The meeting did take place
between the Wampanoag Indians and Pilgrims in 1621 and
never did happen again, so this was unique.  It was not
a religious celebration but a harvest festival.  If you would like to learn
more about the Wampanoag Indians, or just want to see and read
some neat websites celebrating this thankful holiday,

My thoughts on Thanksgiving...

traveling
the delicious smell of a roasting turkey
delightfully tickling my senses
promising warm smiles and laughter
rival football games played with tradition
parades with sequined floats and marching bands
corn stalks, pumpkins
rustic and golden fall mums
offer a thankful greeting
to each passing eye
pumpkin pie giggles
children's joyful sighs
a short cut to grandma's house
friends over for dinner
Christmas shopping
lines at the grocery store
feeding the homeless
fresh cranberry relish
calling to say "Happy Thanksgiving"
grandkid's cheerful hugs
days of preparation
never ending piles of dirty dishes
that "stuffed like a turkey" feeling
"Black Friday" (which I always avoid)
prayers of togetherness and thanks!

Above all, Thanksgiving Day is highlighted and celebrated
as a day of peace and thanks.
A prayer is offered for the wonderful food and for all
the many things that are part of our lives.

I decided to think a little longer and deeper
about what really is important to me this year.
My thoughts drifted into many areas. I was
grateful I had a job and a home, but these
are the normal things one thinks of immediately,
as blessings are sought at the dinner table.
This year, I am happy and thankful to just be here
in this moment, alive and breathing
and for the chance to feel alive.
I am also thankful for the family and friends
in my life.
Nothing I own can compare to the care and love
I have received from each of them.
Remarkably, the priceless gifts of my life,
which is always within my power to control,
and the treasured love and care from family and friends,
hold my valued and thankful thoughts today.

May each of you allow your heart to laugh and sing,
especially on those difficult days we all experience.

My prayers of thanks are offered
along with a Happy Thanksgiving to each of you!
Hugs!

Thanksgiving Moment

My how quickly the days fly by
turning to cool, crisp autumn days.
Harvested, the deeds gratify
counting the cornstalks that are raised.
Now quietly and with patience
each hand meets in thanksgiving praise.
This sweet moment, my existence
held humbled as friendship portrays.
Thoughts of golden memories book marked
with the remembered touching plays,
for each laugh and smile is postmarked,
stamped with loving communiqués.
Through the bad and good times, I've learned
enjoy each moment and every phrase
until love is shared and earned
again and again in sunny ricochets!
