The Dangers of Empathy is a 55-minute performance piece, followed by a discussion that dramatizes the experience of childhood mental illness. Written and performed by mother and daughter June Gross and Viesia Novosielski about their own experiences, The Dangers of Empathy dramatizes the story of a 12-year-old girl and her mother and their struggles for safety, stability and recovery.
This performance piece has been performed more than fifty times nationwide at universities, conferences, and mental health programs. It is often followed by a discussion on mental illness, treatment, resilience, and the role of families.
