Cranford announces the publication of
the Space Covers: Dictionary &
Identifier, Year 2006 Edition , which contains
information about the space cover aspect of Astrophilately, for the collector,
both novice and experienced. It describes the various parts of a space cover
and how one can identify important characteristics that impact the space
cover's value. Identified are more than 200+ space cover manufacturers
worldwide, some dating from 1957, with more than 500 figures. More than 100
international locations are identified where space covers have been
canceled. Included in the 1000 alphabetized entries are astrophilatelic
terms from around the world that commemorate the conquest of space. The
definitions and descriptions are short, and referenced to the original source
for the collector who wishes to gather more in-depth
information on the subject. More than 125 references
are used as sources, many with Internet addresses.
The book size is 8 2 by 11 inches, contains 180 pages, 17 are in color. The book is written in English with French, German, Russian, Japanese, and Chinese terms translated. The book is also available on a CD.
Included
are articles from many astrophilatelic authorities. The 2006 Edition
differs greatly from the earlier version of the Space Cover Dictionary,
2000 Edition. The 2006 Edition contains 75% more information, focuses
on the space cover aspects of Astrophilatelity in much greater detail, and with

Bruce Cranford is an consultant in the field of aerospace and energy, and is an aerospace engineer. He collected space covers for over 40 years. He is a member of the American Philatelic Society, on the Executive committee of the Space Unit Topical Study Group which publishes the AAstrophile@. He has written may articles for the Astrophile. He has published two previous editions of the Space Cover Dictionary in 1996 and 2000.
