Someone sent me this website link today 'cause they figured I'd be interested in their products. Aside from the over use of flash animation, music, and cryptic information, bad navigation, and use of the phrase "Woman friendly and great to work with...", it's perfect!
"Woman friendly?" What exactly does that mean? Especially in reference to paint? Well, I leave it up to you to explore. Maybe you'll get farther than I did. After looking at the site three times, I did finally find some photos of the products. Looks similar to Portola Paints product line. But Portola's site is much more user friendly. And no black birds around each corner....

Howdy again
The So. AZ Taiko Showcase was fantastic in case you were wondering.

Back to color stuff now! I found this blog entry on the BoingBoing website since I was researching trademarked colors this morning. An interesting discussion!

Yeah! A friend sent this link to me this morning.
It's one of the most fun, clever, and brilliant websites I've seen in months! Plus it has color in it!

Enjoy!!

Yep, it’s been Many Days since I blogged. What’s happened since:

  • IACC-NA (International Association of Color Consultants/Designers) annual meeting in San Francisco
  • Two amazingly cool lectures in SF (I helped organize) with Scheid Mumtaz of LifeEnergy Systems talking about full-spectrum lighting and Jill Pilaroscia of the Colour Studio talking about architectural color
  • The Annual Cherry Blossom Festival In San Francisco’s Japan Town. I saw the fun parade with taiko drumming, folk dancing, and lots of colorful people.
  • Another art reception at Toscana Gallery and Studio in Oro Valley. This time there was an outdoor “art walk” in a sculpture garden in the desert!
  • Another art show, this one a juried show put on by the Greater Oro Valley Arts Council (GOVAC) and I won an honorable mention award for a paining I did a couple of years ago called “Quilted Flower”
  • My work is in another art show, “Salon Des Refuses” show at Dinnerware Contemporary Arts. This show is for the artists that did not get into the AZ Biennial Show.
  • My artist friend, Angela Rose, just finished installing a custom glass and stainless steel mosaic in my kitchen. It’s fabulous!!
  • The 3rd Annual Southern Arizona Taiko Showcase is this Saturday, May 19th. So there are many rehearsals and preparations this week. Plus I’m hosting three taiko players from Fushicho Daiko in Phoenix at my home
  • San José Taiko, our guest Star at the taiko Showcase, is giving a workshop Sunday morning
  • Then there is the after Taiko Showcase Party Sunday afternoon at a local Thai restaurant…

And right now, I’m working on a new color newsletter to send to those on my mailing list! It’s going to be short (my time is short) and not put on the web right away but you’ll get it as a PDF.
More next week!
Cheers,
Reb

Hi Folks!
I’m in a veritable whirlwind of activity lately! I just got into a new gallery in Oro Valley (Opening reception was Friday night) and today I went and checked out the “Street Of Dreams” luxury home tour …this one also in Oro Valley, at Stone Canyon. Some of the homes were extraordinary, a few were merely ok and one was downright unattractive. Taste is in the eye of the beholder for the most part, but when your home looks like a hotel lobby, I just can’t see myself entertaining people with cocktails by the pool. I kept expecting a concierge desk or porter around the corner. Plus the oversized furniture in a couple of these places was just bad. There were so many pillows on one sofa that a small child or two could get lost. And sofas so deep your legs didn't touch the ground.

But there were moments of greatness as well, such as the rooftop deck (with ramada so you didn’t roast) with bar, fireplace and plasma TV at home #6, the art collection and amazing textures at #4, and the beautiful guest casita at home #5. The homes that weren’t as well done (#2, #3, #1), were strangely enough, all over-the-top “Faux-Tuscany” villas- all fake columns & Italianate fountains and such. One of these stood out, home #7 and it was pretty well done despite that it wasn’t to my taste since it was a bit too ornate. But it was well designed spatially and had great use of a round motif such as curved wall, round windows, rotunda entries, etc. One of my favorite homes, #4 was great but the landscaping was a total afterthought: shrubs like calla lilies and heavenly bamboo (In Arizona?) plunked down between a few rocks. Awesome house, disappointing landscaping.
And there you are.
