Inspired by some of the powerful work in Spectrum's repertoire, Artistic Director Olivia Davis has created a concert built on the music of artists who came to a point in their lives when they needed to acknowledge and celebrate a force more powerful than they - and to say thank you! Bobby McFerrin, Duke Ellington, Stevie Wonder are examples of those who have chosen to focus their genius on the spiritual. Inspired by the true story, told through dance, of the journey of the thousands of men who came from the Philippines during the late 1940’s and 1950’s seeking their fortune so that they could send support back home to help their families. The 11^th Annual Marathon Dance Concert will feature performances by more than two dozen dance companies and schools from Greater Hartford. The 11th Annual Ted Hershey Dance & Music Marathon 2009 celebrates the life and work of Ted Hershey, who died of AIDS in 1998. As a principal dancer with the Hartford Ballet and co-founder of Works Contemporary Dance, his vision was to make the arts a vital part of the life of his city. at the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill on Friday and Saturday, October 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. The Provincetown Dance Festival provides the Cape’s only annual dance event to enrich the quality of life for visitors as well as all Cape Cod residents by revealing, celebrating and sharing the world of dance through live performances, panel discussions and workshops.

As the culmination of the 25th anniversary season of the original founding of the company, this work is an exploration and the discovery of what we hold dear: love, beauty, faith, and trust. Many of us are familiar with Orpheus, the son of Apollo and one of his muses. His gift of music was revered by all. We are told of his love for Eurydice, his wife. Their love story is a tragic one, but their love is an inspiration for all and endures the test of time. Accompanied by live music and selected recorded music by the world renowned Wayne Shorter, Magandang Dalaga wiil continue the tradition of celebrating the stories of our lives and honoring one of America’s great sons - Wayne Shorter.
