When you setup alarms for POIs, the TomTom comes with very few sound selections and, quite frankly, ones that
are on the odd side (like the cow sound!).  Someone informed me of a very simply way to add
custom sounds to the TomTom's alert sound menu (many thanks to Johan Färemo!)

I won't get into the details of how to assign an alarm to a POI on your TomTom
 because the owner's manual does a decent job of that.

A copy of the owner's manual can be found below:
>>> TomTom Owner's Manual <<<

This page will describe how to add these custom sounds:

1.  The TomTom recognizes sound files in *.ogg format.  You'll need to convert any *.wav or *.mp3 files you want to use for
    an alert sound into the *.ogg format.

     I found a nifty little drag-n-drop program that will automatically convert any *.wav file to a *.ogg file.  This program

     is called oggdropXPd.exe and can be found below:

alternatively, you can use an online audio converter at the following website:
>>> media-convert.com <<<

2.  Once you've created your *.ogg files, plug your TomTom into your PC

3.  Using Windows Explorer, find your TomTom device (it will have the little red TomTom icon next to it: )

4.  Click the little "+" sign next to the TomTom icon to expand the folders:

5.  If there isn't one already, create a folder on the root
 () of your TomTom called /sounds  (all lower case letters
    and plural)

6.  Once the folder is created, copy the new *.ogg files into the /sounds folder.

7.  You can now begin using your new sounds.  Below is an example of how I used one of these new sounds:

        - I created a file called "zoo.ogg"

        - I select CHANGE PREFERENCES -> MANAGE POIS -> WARN WHEN NEAR POI -> ZOO -> 300 yards

        - The following is the next screen that shows up with my new sound option:

8.  On your windows lower right icon task menu, click on the safely remove hardware icon:

9.  When Windows states it is safe to remove your hardware, disconnect your TomTom from your PC.

10.  Your alert is now set and ready to use.
