The
default voice selections on the TomTom ONE LE are very limited and
quite dry. I have found a few
places on the web in which somebody took the time to generate more
interesting custom voices that
you can use on your TomTom.
The following instructions describe how to add these voices to your
TomTom:
1.
Find a voice of your choosing and download to your PC.
A few websites that have voices are:
NOTE:
The voice files will
typically consist of two or three files with the following extensions:
*.vif
= voice pointer and name file
*.chk =
voice data file
*.bmp = image that will show in your
voice menu
selection
For those
of you REALLY
adventurous, you can generate your OWN voice files using your real
voice.
See the
following link:
4. Using
Windows Explorer, find your TomTom device (it will have the little red
TomTom icon next to it:)
5. Click the
little "+" sign next to the TomTom icon to expand the folders:
6. Copy all files
downloaded in Step #1 (*.vif, *.chk, *.bmp) into the folder on your TomTom.
7. On your
windows lower right icon task menu, click on the safely remove hardware
icon:
8.
When
Windows states it is safe to remove your hardware, disconnect your
TomTom from your PC.
9.
Follow the instructions in the owner's manual to select a
different voice. Your new voice will now be one of the
selections.

- NOTE:
When the TomTom asks you
if you want to select voices only in your own language, selectNO If you select YES, you won't
see your voice as one of the selections.
