The following is the default startup image that comes with the TomTom ONE LE:

To Change this image, follow the instructions on this page

1.  Find any image you would like to use for the startup screen.  I chose the following image which I photographed myself from Niagara Falls and then I overlayed the TomTom ONE logo for my own startup image:

2.  Using your favorite image editing software, resize and save the image using the following specifications:
            a) 320 x240 pixels (for non-XL series)
                480 x 272 pixes (for XL and GO 5xx and 9xx series)
            b) 300 pixels per inch
            c) Windows bitmap (*.bmp)
            d) Filename = splash.bmp  (note: the TomTom is case sensitive, so make sure there are no capital letters)

                           = splashw.bmp for TomTom's with 4.3" screens (ONE XL, ONE XL-S, etc.)

More information can be found on TomTom's Website  >>>HERE<<<

You also have the option of using the following webpage that will convert the image for you automatically:

The following pages have some custom splash screens that you can download, if interested:

3.  Plug in your TomTom to your PC

4.  Turn on your TomTom

5.  Using Windows Explorer, find your TomTom device (it will have the little red TomTom icon next to it: )

6.  Click the little "+" sign next to the TomTom icon to expand the folders:

7.   Make a backup of the existing splash.bmp (or splashw.bmp) file that is located in the root folder of your
     TomTom device.
        - This will be the
  folder in my example.

8.  Once the backup has been made, copy the resulting file from step #2 above into the root folder of your
TomTom device.  If you are asked to overwrite the existing file, say 'YES'.

9.  On your windows lower right icon task menu, click on the safely remove hardware icon:

10.  When Windows states it is safe to remove your hardware, disconnect your TomTom from your PC.

11.  Turn off  your TomTom

12.  Next time you turn on your TomTom, you should see your new custom image like the following:

NOTE:  One of the members of the www.tomtomforums.com website created a nifty little program
called 'splashback' that allows a user, with a simple tap of this program's SplashBack icon,
to view the TomTom's splash.bmp file.  Download the program from the following link:

                        a) After downloading the SplashBack.zip file, unzip it on to your computer
                        b) In the resulting SplashBack folder, you'll see the following:

                        c) Simply copy the SdkRegistry folder and the SplashBack file to the root folder of your TomTom
                        d) Your TomTom will now have a new icon called 'SplashBack'

                        e) Simply press the SplashBack icon and your splash.bmp file will appear on the screen
                        f) When you are done viewing the splash.bmp file, tap the screen anywhere and you'll see the TomTom
                            Navigation screen appear.

~~ Many thanks to "Crazy Cellist" for developing this program ~~
