Their eyes follow the helicopters until distance denies the onlookers any further surveillance. Curiosity dissipates giving way to a mundane lunch. Reggie glance down at his watch when a female voice and a whiff of Clinique perfume turned him around. It was Gail Medlocke.
“Hi Reggie.”
“Hi, Gail.”
“What’s wrong with Ira?” Gail asked, with concern.

Before Reggie could answer, there were two other women positioning themselves to listen in.
Reggie answered,“I don’t know.”
Gail sighed, “That Ira sure is a cutie,” then all three women drifted away sharing their speculations about Ira.

As Reggie prepared to go back to work, He thought about that mind thing Ira did to him. He did say it was some kind of trick, Oh well, back to the grind.

Meanwhile, Sherman is in his car, which is an immaculate black 1987 Buick GNX. He’s about a mile from SOLORCOM, stuck in a humongous traffic jam. Talking to his rear view mirror Sherman warned. “Come on man, get off my but. You’re not goin anywhere riding my bumper, genius, just take a look around, and if you tap my ride I’m going to kick your…” A helicopter thundered over his car. Flying ahead, it positioned itself near the top of some trees located just off the highway, “What’s all this drama about? I’m already 10 minutes late. Maybe they’re trying to medivac somebody to the hospital.”

If this were summertime, these same people would be out of their cars, rubbernecking. But it’s 10 degrees and only a few intrepid souls exit their cars for a peek. After observing two fighter jets flying crossing patterns overhead, Sherman decides, That’s it, it’s time to call Reggie and tell him whatzup.
He punches in the number and the cell phone struggles in vain to find a signal. Sherman was about to hit redial, when a shiny streamline cylinder, rising above the treetops, demanded his attention. At a glance it looked like it might be a blimp. But it took off at a 90-degree angle and flew right over the area where Sherman sat watching. It was not a blimp at all, Sherman had never seen anything like this outside of a STAR WARS movie. Turning smoothly until it was perpendicular to the highway, It angled upwards and took off at amazing speed.
“What was that?!” Exclaimed Sherman.
He twisted his body roundabout to see how this sighting was registering on the rest of the commuters. Not surprisingly, Everyone started sacrificing the warmth of their cars to compare notes on the high performance Bogey. While someone was asking, was that one of ours? An unidentifiable noise that sounded as if it could be heard around the world shook the sky and two huge UFO’s swooped down, seemingly out of nowhere. The crowd gasped and cowered as if expecting the sleek behemoth machines to crash into them. The two fighter planes flew down and buzzed the saucers. The UFOs where shinny, like mercury with neon green bands glowing around their edges. They appeared to be made of the same material as the cylinder UFO that left a few moments ago. Ignoring the fighter jets, the saucers slowed to a hover, Sherman looked at their under sides. He saw wavy radiation like those you see rising from the street on a hot summer day. There was a noise coming from them, a high pitch whirling sound reminding him of the old subway trains he use to ride in Philadelphia. However, when the saucers moved, they also made a very low humming sound, like gargantuan transformers.

They hovered briefly over the areas the cylinder had just vacated. Positioning themselves like stair steps, one slightly higher than the other and without breaking formation, they took off in the same direction as the cylinder. Now panic starts to emerge. Police cars are arriving in droves, with their lights strobing wildly, clearing a path for several military hummers.

Everyone was stunned! Some fainted and Sherman saw one woman throw-up. The police quickly started clearing a path on both sides of the highway, to allow cars to start moving. Most people returned to their cars quickly, but a few were just to stun to drive. Sherman’s radio station came back on the air after all the UFO’s were gone.

“Oh snap!” says Sherman. “What a late from lunch story I got!” When Sherman arrived at the parking lot, he saw Reggie’s Grand Prix and Oceana’s big, Ford Expedition. However, when he pulled up to his favorite spot, a car was parked there. This is not unusual accept, this is a brand new customized Mercedes Benz wagon!

Considering himself a car buff, Sherman briefly admires the Benz then finds another place to park.

As soon as Sherman walked on the shop floor, he saw people standing around one anthers bench, talking with excitement on their faces. He took an inconspicuous route to his department. As he neared his work area, he saw Reggie discussing the UFO reports with some guys from test department. Reggie waved Sherman in. “Hey, Sherman! Did you see anything while you where out?” All eyes turned to Sherman. As he hangs up his coat, he began to tell his story. They all wished they had been there.

Reggie was not afraid to talk about his experience now. In fact, he told Sherman that he saw a UFO in the exact same place as today’s incident. Sherman just sighed, “Yo, those jawns were off the hook, I’ve always wanted to see one for myself. “You know, this really makes you wonder Whe---.” “OK, guys let’s get back to work.” Ah-oh! Busted by the Boss. They all scatter to their workbenches.
It was approaching break-time when Sherman asks Reggie, “When are the other techs suppose to come back? This work is piling up.”
“ Four are due back Monday. I don’t know when Tyrone is coming back from field service.
Don’t sweat this man, I plan to obsolete half this stuff and scrap it.”

“Can we do that?” asks Sherman.
Reggie replied,
“If it’s six revisions old, I was instructed by quality to scrap it, because it poses reliability problems.”
Hey, look its break time lets go to the cafeteria.”

Sherman hesitates and says, “Well I was kinda late coming back from lunch, and you never know who’s watching. I don’t want nobody accusin me of being a time bandit, Let me make up some time and I’ll holla at you when you get back.”

“I hear you.” Said Reggie.

Reggie scans the lunchroom for his wife. She was sitting with several other women talking a mile a minute. He smiles to himself, Uh huh Dar could hardly wait to call my extension this afternoon to tell me about the UFO incident. Now she can’t look at me like, I’m some kind of nut case.

After a brief conversation with Larry, Reggie starts in the direction of the soda machines.

“Reginald!” a voice called from behind. The now familiar voice belongs to Ira. Reggie turns halfway around. Before he could speak, Ira said, “Come, sit with me, I have something to tell you.” Ira’s manner was calm but his eyes where sparkling with excitement.

“Ok,” says Reggie as he tries to gage the importance of Ira’s quiet storm, How about over there away from the crowd?”
“Fine,” said Ira.
Reggie kept thinking, is Ira going to show me some more tricks?

Before Reggie’s bottom could touch the seat of the chair, Ira put his hand on Reggie’s forearm and leaned forward, “I’m sure you have heard about [The Incident], correct?”
“You mean the UFO stuff?”
“Yes.”
“Yeah, I heard about it, did you see them too?”
Ira removes his hand from Reggie’s arm exhaled and slouched back in his chair. Then he leaned
forward placing his elbows on the table forming a triangle with his fingers. Putting the tip of this triangle to his lips he said, “Reginald, one of those craft is assigned to me.”

“What?” says Reggie, do you work for the government too?
“No, no nothing like that.” Said Ira, Motioning to Reggie to quiet down.
Opening his triangle hands, Ira lowers his head, allowing his fingers to slip through jet-black locks of hair.
Reggie’s eyes found that black and gold bracelet.

“What kind of assignment are you on and what does it have to do with these UFO’s?”

Ira looked up at the clock and said, “Your break-time is over.”
Reggie sighs. “I know,”as they slowly rise from the table.
“Reginald, I sense that you are a trustworthy man, and that’s good.”
To answer your question, What is my assignment? Let’s just say, I am watching over your well being, the people you love and many others.

“Yeah, says Reggie, you work for the government, but you can’t say.
Hey, that’s cool. Just tell me one more thing.”

“What would you like to know?”
“Which one of those craft is yours?”
Ira smiled and said, “the smallest one.”
As they start to walk, Ira puts his hand on Reggie’s shoulder and whispers in his ear.
“Please keep these things confidential then I’ll be able to get you a raise.” Reggie had started to look for his wife but that last remark got his attention. Ira just pats him on the shoulder and walked towards the Coke machine.

Reggie treks back to his work area with all kinds of thoughts bombarding his mind. SOLARCOM does a thorough background check on all applicants, before they are hired, that dismisses Ira as a terrorist threat. There were so many questions he wanted to ask Ira but time seems to fly by when he’s around. Besides that, there was something about Ira that made Reggie feel at ease even with all these disturbing thoughts and events. Ira’s smile made it seem like everything is under control.
