Hey all! Hope you're all doing well out there tonight. I know I am. I've got my health, and the health of my immediate family, I have a good job and an absolutely gorgeous motorcycle down in the garage. I got to thinking tonight, after reading a number of posts and threads about a few things not really too close to motorcycling (which is fine, I enjoy those too) that I haven't seen a posts too recently that celebrates the joy of being out on the road and in the wind. I know a lot of people that ride motorcycles and I've found that many of us seem to think of motorcycling as something much more personal and meaningful than just getting between points A and B on two wheels. Here, I've been reading enough to get the feeling that there maybe some folks out here that I might actually consider "real motorcyclist" or "real bikers" pick your term, I hope you get my drift. So I thought I'd post a note on what you love about motorcycling and riding, what floats your boat, gets you revved up and keeps you thinking about the next ride. I can't begin to describe all the things I love about motorcycling, but I'd like to name a few, just to see if I'm the only one, or are there others out there, who like myself, has this very personal relationship with the road, riding, the bike, the country side, the music, the people, the restaurants, the rest areas and all of it. So, here it goes, just me, "the newbie" trying to reach out to some other friends of the road, and make some connections. Here's what I love. I love starting a ride, long or short, and feeling the perfect power of the engine, the tunes of the exhaust the wind in my face, and all of that, but also, looking in my mirrors and seeing, in the upper inner corners of the rear views, the rippling of my T-shirt blowing in the wind. I love listening the old, classic rock & roll on my headphones, while the miles drift by.. Bob Seeger, CSN, Tom Rush, Bob Dylan, The Belamy Bros., Van Morrison, etc etc etc.. I love leaning into a long fast New Hampshire sweeper on Rt. 31N in Greenville NH and rolling on the gas, accelerating out of the corner and hearing my sweet pipes bounce beautiful notes off the granite walls of old cliffs. Following the river just a little further up.. beeping my air horns at the kayakers testing their skills another way on the water and the rocks. I love coffee, eggs and home fries at 7AM on the porch of Cliff's cafe in Townsend Mass before a great day of riding. I love the noontime specials at Timoleon's in the center of Keene NH in the spring and fall, when it's cold outside, ordering the chocolate cream pie for desert and another cup of coffee. I love putting my feet up on the pegs and putting on 50 miles of sweepers in Vermont before I hit the next small town, enjoying the majesty of the scenery any time of the year.. but especially in October. I love waving at a station wagon full of family and kids as they pass me by on the Interstate..smiling. Riding through Vermont on Rt. 30 to visit Bill W's grave in East Dorset VT. I love washing and polishing and tuning and tweaking my bike, getting it so nice that it deserves another photo shoot on the top of Temple Mt. on Rt. 101 in New Hampshire, or maybe after a little cruise up to Captain Bob's in Princeton Mass for a hot fudge Sunday made by Jen, or Amanda or Tara, who are always so nice to me. (see my Webshots for pics of them).. I love taking my 17 year old daughter out for a ride and telling her that her job is to wave at the other bikers.. and knowing she loves doing it. What a warm feeling that is. I love talking about the bike to the gas station attendant. I love my leather jacket. ..and my boots. ..and my jeans. I love riding, and all the little things about it. What about you, can you relate to any of this? ..or is it just me? Steve LeBlanc
