Ann Arbor Urban Color Tour - Dover Parkside and Liberty 2005

Liberty Color Tour 2005

I live in the city of Ann Arbor, Michigan, a city that prizes its trees enough to put a tree in the center of its official seal. See Ann Arbor City Government. In October more than any other month, it is apparent why, because the fall colors are spectacular.

Some people travel long distances to see it, but if you live in Ann Arbor as we do, there's no need to go anywhere. My wife and I took a walk from our home in the Dover-Parkside subdivision on the west side of town. After walking around the subdivision, we walked into town on West Liberty Street. There were beautiful trees at every turn. The entire route was on the "west side", completely within the city of Ann Arbor. These images are right from my digital camera, with no color corrections made. We hope you like them.

We took this walk from west to east, ending at downtown, rather than vice versa, because we did it in the afternoon (Sunday, October 30, 2005, to be exact) and at this time, the sun lit up all these trees for our picture-taking pleasure, but only in this direction.
This Pin Oak tree is a city tree on our lawn extension.
This Sugar Maple is also on our lawn extension.

Not trees -- here we have a row of alternating "burning bush" and forsythia. These are green all Summer, but alternate red and green during the Fall color season. In the Spring they are alternating yellow and green when the forsythia bloom, a subject for another website.

They were not in sunlight because of the tall trees of Eberwhite Woods, just to the west.

Looking down Liberty Street towards town, we can see that the shape of this tree has been adjusted to avoid conflict with the power lines.
