Hawaiian Islands Vacation 2000- Introduction
Steve and Steffi's Hawaiian island Vacation 2000
Welcome to Steve and Steffi's Hawaiian Island Vacation 2000. We made this site because we wanted to
show our friends and relations all of our cool vacation pictures. We have made a habit of this in
the past, starting in 1997 when we visited California, and again in 1999,
when we visited the Pacific Northwest.
Introduction
We had never been to Hawaii before. It had been a dream of ours to go one day, and the day finally came in January, 2000.
We planned the trip over many months, and decided to go in January for several reasons. We dislike going at the peak of the season,
and Hawaii is very busy during the December holiday season, and again in late winter when school breaks start. Since our
kids have grown up and school scheduling was not a factor for us, we selected January in order to take advantage of
promotional airline ticket prices, to avoid crowds, and also because January is the coldest month of the year in
Michigan, our home state, so this schedule offered us the opportunity to trade the worst of Michigan's winter for
some tropical sunshine.
Since we had never been to the islands, we planned to see and do as many things as our two-week vacation would allow.
This naturally makes for a very hectic time, but we rather like our vacations to be that way. We're not the type
that like to sit around and relax on vacation. One friend of ours described our style of vacation as "kamikaze."
I can't dispute that. Well, here we go, "Banzai!"
We chose to visit four islands, Oahu, Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai. We would have done Molokai and Lanai in addition
if we had had three weeks, but we'll have to save those for our next trip.
We needed a rental car on each Island, and found the best deals available on a compact car from Dollar Rent-A-car,
by reserving them on-line. We didn't need a new motel each night, though. We found that on Hawaii it makes much
more sense to pick a central location and stay in the same place on each Island. Mostly, that's what we did,
and it worked out very well.
As in our earlier vacation websites, we had to shrink these pictures down to a manageable
size so that we can bring to you so many of them. We have higher resolution versions of all these photos on
CD, so if you are interested, please contact us.

Navigation
This site is organized into chapters, so that the downloading does not get out of hand. Altogether they add
up to about 1.7 megabytes, so if you don't have a high speed connection, you will experience delays when loading.
Links are provided at the bottom of each chapter to all other chapters.
If you are planning on viewing the whole site, We recommend following them in order,
but feel free to jump around if it pleases you. Oahu is first.
Because we saw and photographed so many interesting things, we have also provided
an index of all the photographs, organized by subject.
See our index page.
