Elections show mixed results, but signal a change.

Texas overwhelmingly approves amendment to ban marriages

ME Rejects Proposal to rescind discrimination protections BUT has a marriage amendment in the works

FEDERAL Marriage Amendment was approved to move to the Senate for vote!

Friends,

Oh boy, was I tired when I sent that last update; those were a lot of typos, even for me!  Anyway, as upsetting as it was to see yet another state choosing to amend their constitution, I'm keeping positive for now.  For every unfortunate turn of events over the past week, there seems to also be a positive development to note.  There is a notable change of attitude that was demonstrated in this past election... a move AWAY from the far right.  However, the NEW federal proposal to amend the US Constitution to ban gay couples from marriage protections has also made it through it's first hurdle and is on its way to the Senate for vote.

I have read that the MA Citizen's Petition gatherers have already gathered well over what is needed to move their bigoted plans forward... but... Have also read that one of our biggest foes in the legislature has turned around to support us.  NOW is the time to be contacting your reps/senators to see where they stand on this petition.  ONLY 50 Legislators need to approve it, to put it on the ballot!

O'Flaherty: It's time to move beyond marriage debate in MA
Chelsea Democrat had been a leading opponent of same-sex marriage rights - now says he will not back effort to amend state constitution.
State Rep. Eugene O'Flaherty, an influential opponent of civil marriage rights for same-sex couples, now says that he is opposed to the current effort to put a gay marriage ban on the 2008 ballot. During a lengthy interview with Bay Windows, O'Flaherty also says that as House chair of the legislature's Joint Committee on the Judiciary he will recommend that the legislation not be passed should it come before his committee, as it likely will.
