CONGRATULATIONS
JOE AND DAVID!
Amazingly good news from my best friend on June 5th.... CONGRATULATIONS!

Folks, there are lots of updates this week.  Lots of activities announcements and action items; Please read them carefully and help to take action.  Our opposition has returned in FULL FORCE.

PLEASE REVISIT MY HRC PAGE as there are now 4 new additional actions that you can each take that help me reach my goal of 100.  I'm not even 1/2 way yet!

Notable items this week:

Conservative groups, lawmakers seek end of gay marriages in federal court

BOSTON (AP) A coalition of conservative groups and lawmakers asked a federal appeals court Monday to stop gay marriages, saying the state's highest court overstepped its bounds by changing the traditional meaning of marriage when it cleared the way for same-sex couples to wed.

Recent Editorials in the Patriot Ledger.

PLEASE!... Write editorials your local papers!  Especially the Patriot Ledger if you are on the South Shore of Boston.  I have been sending this update for over 2 months now and I am aware of only 1 person on this list who has had an editorial printed in that time period.  Most papers will publish your letters every 30 days.

Check out what has been recently published.

Same-sex marriage
I just want Attorney General Reilly to block any of these so-called marriages that he can.  We've got to get serious.  This is not right and we should block them all.

ALBERT NOGLER

Romney and gays
I think Romney should by all means not recognize marriages from out of state couples who got married in Massachusetts.  Actually I don't think there hould be any same-sex marriages. That's my opinion and I'll never change.

CATHERINE WHEELER
Randolph

Smoking, gay marriage
An Article in the May 24 Ledger concerning towns that ban outside smoking quoted a leader of an anti-smoking group as stating one of the reasons for such actions was "...it changes societal norms when children go to the park or to family places and see people smoking."

Let me get this straight -- it's bad for kid's to see people smoking, but its OK for them to be bombarded with multiple images of same gender couples engaged in lip-locks by every media outlet they encounter?

God help us.

CHUCK WALLACE

Had enough yet?... There are MORE... Our bigoted and ignorant opposition has been getting a lot of press lately.  Please remember that there still is a chance that the general public could vote to revoke our civil rights in 2006.

PLEASE!... Write editorials your local papers!  Especially the Patriot Ledger if you are on the South Shore of Boston.  I have been sending this update for over 2 months now and I am aware of only 1 person on this list who has had an editorial printed.

Here's another, just to prove my point:

Marriage is primarily a matter of biology

Paul J. Meoni, Democrat for Massachusetts State Representative.

Paul Meoni is the gentleman from Randolph, MA, that is challenging my HORRIBLE State Representative, Bruce Ayers for his seat in the MA House of Representatives.

Paul's webpage is now up and running.
Please visit
http://www.electmeoni.com/ to learn how you can support his campaign to replace my local representative who has consistently fought to deny my civil rights.

Tell Mitt Romney To Stop His Anti-Gay Crusade

Mitt Romney continues his rampage against same-sex couples.  He is using a forgotten 1913 law with a racist history and applying it in a
discriminatory way to keep out-of-state same-sex couples from marrying.  And, he said he would veto attempts to repeal the law!  Please click here to tell Romney to stop his anti-gay crusade.
    http://EqualMarriage.org/romney.php

May 17th was a wonderful day.  Throughout the state committed same-sex couples filed their intentions and then got married.  These marriages help same-sex couples and their children and are good for the commonwealth.

Nonetheless, our governor continues to be single-mindedly focused
on taking away these rights by passing an anti-gay amendment to the Massachusetts constitution.  He needs to hear from people--gay and straight--to stop this attack on committed couples.

We've made it very easy for you to tell Governor Romney to stop:
    http://EqualMarriage.org/romney.php

Massachusetts has many challenges--job loss, health needs, and a state budget that has not been finalized.  Shouldn't Governor Romney focus his energies on these issues instead of trying to stop committed couples from getting married?  Tell Governor Romney his priorities are off -- you can write him here:
    http://EqualMarriage.org/romney.php

Governor Romney needs to hear from you!

Thank you,
The Freedom To Marry Coalition

March with MassEquality in the MA Pride Parade

Thank you for helping us achieve what seemed impossible. You are receiving this message because you signed a postcard to your legislator or signed up for our list on a busy street corner or at a MassEquality event. Your efforts have made a real difference.

On May 17th Massachusetts became the first state in the Union to end discrimination against same-sex couples. At MassEquality, we are focused on making sure that mean-spirited attempts to take away equal marriage rights in Massachusetts are not successful. We cannot allow our opponents to write discrimination into our Constitution. Over the coming months and years, we'll need your help.

This past March, we came very close to defeating a proposed constitutional amendment that would undermine this historic Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruling on marriage equality. Next year, we'll face this amendment in the legislature again. With your support, we will defeat it and ensure that true equality for same-sex couples is here to stay in Massachusetts.

Of course, we're not waiting to start our efforts. Within the week, we'll be launching our Summer of Equality program -- designed to identify even more supporters of same-sex marriage and to mobilize our members to work in important political campaigns. We're also going to be very busy at Boston Pride celebrations. In fact, we'd like you to march with us in the Boston Pride Parade this Saturday. You can register to march with us or to volunteer this week by visiting http://www.massequality.org/pride.php .

TAKE ACTION HERE

Please sign my HRC Federal petition and forward to friends, if you haven't already.
There are
new actions you can take to help me make my goal.
I only have 41 out 100 so far.

Contribute to the campaign of Paul Meoni
He is
challenging the My local representative who has consistently voted against my civil rights.

Contribute to the campaign of Representative David Linsky.
He is under republican and religious attack because of his decision to stand up for us.

Submit an editorial to your local paper every 35 days.  It is important to publicly show support for gay marriage!

Dear Friends

In 2004, HRC-PAC has identified key senators and U.S. representatives facing tough re-election battles, as well as candidates vying to defeat anti-gay incumbents or fill open seats.

To generate maximum financial support for HRC’s candidates– and to connect that support directly to the commitment of GLBT and fair-minded donors – HRC is launching a new program called e-Quality Candidates, which will provide you with the opportunity to make contributions directly to your choice of these candidates at and to route those contributions through HRC for maximum impact.

With Congress already holding hearings on a constitutional amendment to deny marriage equality to GLBT Americans, we can’t afford to lose even a single fair-minded supporter in the House or Senate.  It’s also crucial to elect new allies who will champion the cause of equality and stand up to anti-gay legislation.

With your help we will

  • Elect fair-minded leaders
  • Defeat anti-gay officeholders
  • Ensure we have enough votes in Congress to defeat the FMA
  • Provide our community with a strong and unified voice on Capitol Hill

Conservative forces likely recognize the powerful potential of this tool for the GLBT community and they will do their level best to undermine our success.  We expect the right wing to launch attacks against the fair-minded candidates appearing on HRC’s site.  Together we must ensure that the benefit far outweighs this risk.

Whether you can give $20 or $2,000 to an e-Quality Candidate—together we can harness the giving power of the GLBT community and produce victories for equality in November.

Your donation to the e-Quality Candidates will provide HRC and the GLBT community with additional clout long after Election Day. Clout HRC and other groups can use to help a pass ENDA, hate crimes legislations, increase HIV/AIDS funding and fight off discriminatory legislation like the FMA.

Please visit HRC’s e-Quality Candidate pages today.

Together, activist supporters like you, and principled leaders like our e-Quality Candidates, can secure a solid base of support for equality in the United States Congress.

Thank you for being part of this important effort.

Best Regards,

Winnie Stachelberg
Political Director
