Shirley Slaughter's book Our Lady of Victory: The Saga of an African American Catholic Community documents the history of the black Catholic church which was established on West 8 Mile Road near Wyoming in the 1940's. I for one was glad to know what happened to the church that I visited several times in the 1950's.
Ms Slaughter's historical account gives valuable insight to those who
were members of Our Lady of Victory church. I highly recommend this
book to all who are interested in African American history.
