females online: what we put up with
it's possible that females get hit on and bothered by pushy males (or even
females sometimes, i suppose, but i haven't been privy to many instances of
that) online even more than off. i know that i, for one, have certainly had my
share.
what's sad is i've grown so used to this that i actually expect being asked
for 'cybersex' or whatever at least every now and then. even more, frightening
(and annoying) is the persistence and downright determination of these guys.
like i've said, no means no, even online.
now, born from my pure disgust and the encouragement of my darling
Triskaideka, i offer this portion of my page.
the following is a list--a hall of shame, if you will--of the logs i offer
for your enjoyment and their humiliation, should they ever see this page. also,
this may keep others from doing the same later on.
The logs from ICQ are
obviously *completely* unprovoked. For the IRC logs, sometimes I would just stay
in the channel I frequent (which usually only has 5-10 people in it at a time).
And heaven forbid I ever enter a channel that most people (especially my age)
would enter. For example, any channel with "chat" or "teen" in the name is bound
to get you plenty of these guys. This is why I stopped going to them for so
long, even when I was bored out of my mind. When attracting these guys, I didn't
get their attention first. I didn't even breathe a word in the channel. But
these guys are on the hunt for females. Now that I've started this.. study of
sorts.. I may venture into the bigger channels more often. I never msg or query
anyone. I sit and lurk. When someone msgs me (usually with a "hi," or "a/s/l?"
or, as you'll see soon, the disturbingly frequent "suck me."), I change it to a
query window so I won't have to keep typing "/msg (nick)" over and over.. and
this is what happens. It really shows you just what the average user with a
feminine nick will get when they do this.
Want my suggestion? If you really
want to enter a more populated channel, but you don't want to run across many
guys like these, there is a nifty "/names #channel" command, where you use the
name of the channel you're interested in. Once it gives you a list of the people
in the channel, you can query or msg any that interest you. This would make sure
you didn't get bombarded with mass invites and pleads for cybersex.
As of the
first of April (2000), I downloaded the latest mIRC client. This client actually
automatically puts into your query window what was said to you in the message
window. In other words, on the more recent logs, you'll now be able to see the
very first line of the conversation, which is always fascinating--as one might
imagine. heh.
Oh, and another note. From now until I give other notice, the
newest logs will go at the bottom of each column. Just in case you were
wondering.

And this guy, Proton26, is the
best example I've ever found of what *should* be done in this situation.
And now.. on with the show:
