We lost site of land today and were
still sailing west. I dont see how were

blowing from the est. I dont think that
i want to go any ferther. Alot of the
other guys are starting to mumble. I
think that
Its getting really fuff on the ship. We havent seen land for weeks. Theres talk of muteny. Everyone wants to turn and go back befor its to late. I really miss Colita. So far I have nothing to bring back to her. Dave says that im getting real good at spelling. At least I have sumthing to show Coliita when I get home.
5 men got sick on the pinta
yesterday. The admeral sent Dave and me
and 2 other guys over to that ship. The
capten is alot nicer than
Its really getting testy on the
ship. Evry one wants to turn back.
Evrybody got in a real uproar
today. I heard that the cru on the
LAND HO! I did it
I got the gold peece I saw land
first! It was about 2 in the morning. I saw this mownd I thot was a wale or
somthing. But then I saw a tree lim in
the water and new it was land. I rang
the bell and evrybody got up and cheered.
Later we landed. Dave sed it

We sailed into another bay today. We saw no kings but we did see some natives with smoking sticks in there mouths. They called them cigars and showed us how to make them and smoke them. I didnt really like the taste of them but I smoked them anyway becuz everyone else was. We loaded up on a lot of the leevs to make them with and then set sail agen.
No time to write lately.
Weve been to more ilands but Dave
says that none of them really look like
Dave and I caught a turkey today. We desided that we would have our own little holiday. We named it Turkey Day.
Its getting really boring on this ship. Its not too bad when we goe ashore, but otherwise, its boring. I cant wait to get back home to Colita. I have so many things to tell her. Ive traded some of mypay for some trinkets that the natives had. I am going to give them to her as late presents for her birtday and Cristmas.
Some men got sick since I last wrote. Only one died, though. Captain Pinzon is always saying DONT DRINK THE WATER! I wonder if that iw what is making them sick?
It was a fine Christmas Day today
and a fine night too. Warm and sunny all
day and clear enough to see all the starts tonight. The
Happy New Year! Here it is new years day. Another holiday without Colita. Its more lonley on the holidays.
January 7 1493
Coloumbus said that we would be leaving on the 16 of this month. But we havre to capture some natives to bring back. I think thats mean.
January 17 1493
We left yesterday. We have 7 natives. Its my job to feed them. I dont mind though. I know another guy that has to clean out their portion of the ship.
January 25 1493
We lost the Nina in a storm. I hope that its ok.
February 6 1493
I cant believe the bordom on this ship. I got propositioned by one one of the guys today! I had heard rumors about that kind of thing going on on board but I didnot think amything about it. I had better keep a sharp lookout.
February 14 1493
Dave and I decided to day to declare another holiday. Since we both miss our wifes very much we decided to name this day Wifes day.
February 28 1493
Everybody is anxious to get home. Captain Pinzon says that we will get home in aobut 2 weeks. I hope so.
March 10 1493
Well it's Colita's birthday today. I wish that I could be with her right now. I wonder what she's doing right now. Probably wishing that she would never have another birthday again and she's only 23. But I remember her once saying that she never wanted us to grow old. Only happy.
March 15 1493
Land! We land in only 1 hour. I can't wait. I will run all the way home. I'm glad that I have only 1 mile to go. Dave has 2. Some of the other men have even more. Dave and I agreed on him and his wife coming over next week to get our families together. Did I mention that he has 2 sons? Well I gotta go get ready.
October 1500
I was going through some things and discovered this old diary of mine. I decided that I should finish it. Here is what has happened since my return.
I ran the entire way home and was
thrilled to find that while I was away, my wife had a baby! She was a beautiful baby girl that was born
on
Colita loved the trinkets that I brought her and she has read this diary. I believe that I will never be able to tell her all the stories of my adventures, but that's ok, for she has said that she will never stop listening.
Dave came over that second week and we found that our wives had met the day we left and had become best friends.
As for me, well, I went to the university where Dave worked. Now, I too am teaching a few classes. In Language Arts, if you can believe that. It is certainly a far cry from where I started this.
Colita is with child again. This time, I plan to be here the whole time.
