Design and Build a Vintage Garage-Workshop in the Woods without disturbing 50-70 year old trees, have reasonable street access with our corner lot, meet County Building & Columbia New Town Architectural Codes, and meet my personal standards for Architectural and Environmental Harmony!
The plan developed in accord with the following criteria:
Respect the 'California Contemporary'Architectural Style of our home.
Protect our 'Stevens Forest Columbia, MD New Town Neighborhood' Environmental Legacies.
Include a minimum of three working spaces: for Vintage Automobile Protection; Maintenance; and Long Term Classic Vehicle Restoration.
Protect the Environmental Harmony long enjoyed by us and our neighbors homes and property aesthetics.
Enable standard Garage Door Entry and conform to Street Setback requirements.
Have required concrete garage floor without the use of concrete trucks over existing lawn and sewer pipes (broken once before in building Camellia's Gallery Addition to the house).
Create open interior spaces to allow TR4 vehicle movement between the Garage and workshop.
Engineer structure to be functional and yet 'hand built' given the 6' ground elevation difference between front left corner of the Garage section and back 'glass wall' of the rear of the 'Restoration Workshop' without use of even a small Backhoe (which could not operate between the existing trees).
Keep Roof Height of Garage/Workshop below window of adjacent house so as not to interfere with Solar Rays, even on December 21st.
Use the Unique architectural features of our existing home (skylights, trapzoidal windows, roof slopes, same siding, but not have structure look 'commercial', or like a 'box garage' from the Open Space of the Columbia Association Bike Paths behind our collective houses.
Included a Dedicated Area for Technical and Literature Libraries.
Create Working Benches in the 'Storage Lofts' which are required for structural integrity of the Trapzoidal Components of the Integrated Structure.
Use Driveway materials to improve traction in icy conditions as driveway begins on a slope. Neighboring driveways of white concrete get 'leaf stained' by nautre, and driveways of blacktop provide 'no traction' when rain turns to black ice.
Design Corner Driveway with Earth Tones to look more like 'an 'Upscale Patio' when vehicles are not parked on it.
