This is a list of birds I have seen in my backyard in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana. The nice thing about the Cornell University web links are they include photos and bird sounds which often verifies identifies with two similar birds like wrens and finches. Eastern Bluebird Cyanocitta cristata was seen in April 2006. My neighbor started feeding them in 2005 and raised a clutch in a bird house before fledgling's left. Northern Cardinal Cardinalis cardinalis. Gray Catbird Dumetella carolinensis. Black-capped Chickadee Parus atricapillus or Carolina Chickadee Parus carolinensis. American Crow Corvus brachyrhynchos. Mallard Duck's Anas platyrhynchos have been visiting the neighborhood since the 1980's playing in the flooded easements in the spring, in my ornamental pond when I had one, and infrequently visiting throughout the summer season. House Finch Carpodacus mexicanus. American Goldfinch Carduelis tristis. Common Grackle Quiscalus quiscula. Ruby-throated Hummingbird Archilochus colubris, saw the first one May 6, 2006. Blue Jay Cyanocitta cristata. Dark-eyed Junco Junco hyemalis, I used to see these when I had lots of Rhododendron's and Azaleas which provided a low growing shrub hide-away, haven't seen since I removed most of them. American Robin Turdus migratorius. English House Sparrow Passer domesticus. European Starling Sturnus vulgaris. Tufted Titmouse Parus bicolor has a very unique sound. Rufous-sided or Eastern Towhee Pipilo erythrophthalmus, April 8, 2006 saw a pair for the first time. Warbler Dendroica species? used to see when I had lots of Rhododendron's and Azaleas where they felt comfortable under cover. Cedar Waxwing Bombycilla cedrorum. Downy Woodpecker Picoides pubescens.
