About Stanslist
Back in 2005, before facebook, before the debt crisis, some of my Music lovin' friends and myself were constantly trying to find the venues that had live Music. We would always check out the venues that had calendars first. Nancy and Loretta, each had their own list of where to go that night. That gave me the idea. I registered the domain - Stanslist.com, redirected it to the free home.comcast address and proceeded to learn the ins and outs of the world wide interweb, to make a list for everyone.
I look back at my first site with all the cute motion gifs (some used here) and realize that the goal of stanslist has not changed. Back then I would scour the web for live Music and call venues that had bands. I'd make and put up a calendar for that venue. I put monthly calendars on Stanslist for most of the popular live Music venues from Somerville to Gloucester. It became a live Music lovers information haven. Even though the goal hasn't changed the ease of using Stanslist has.
At one point I tried to set up a way the venues could list themselves each month on Stanslist, but quickly realized that that was nearly impossible to get a complete schedule. So I went back to posting their schedules in one place... Stanslist.
Even with all the calendars on Stanslist, many Music followers asked me to make a list of all the live Music for just that week. People wanted to know where to go "tonight" without combing all the calendars. I didn't have the time to compile that list. After a while I found it too time consuming to even make calendars for the venues, so I stopped making calendars and just listed the days and dates that live Music played at each venue.
Today, Stanslist lists all the venues that have/had live Music and the days the Music plays. All you have to do is go to each and every venues' site to find out who's playing. While you're at it you can use the address to find them and their phone number to call them. (These features work on Smartphones, too) Then check out your facebook friends, check events, check your email from bands and you'd have a great list of what's happening.
Along comes Linda, my friend and partner. She spends between 5 and 10 hours a week compiling that list.
Linda's List as it has become known provides North of Boston Music lovers with a comprehensive list of all the great venues that have LIVE MUSIC. Unbiased and complete! Nobody does it better!!! Thank you Linda!
The list of venues on Linda's List are alphabetical by city. She checks them weekly. If you have a gig not listed by the venue (there are a lot) please email Linda, since she doesn't have the time to check out every bands website or Facebook page. Check out the Band links to get the picture (there are hundreds).
She will always list your gig if you email her directly (she ignores most facebook blasts). Don't forget to include the Band, Venue, City, Date and Time. Please, no links - JUST schedule INFO!
The list of cities on Stanslist is in no particular order. When I began Stanslist I usually started in Salem and worked my way out from there. Now, if you need to find venues you can Search by City or by Venue, hit GO and voila, or just scroll down and follow the spiral of live Music from Salem out to Salisbury.
