From Brad Tallis: This book is hard to find, but is an excellent source for turning shapes. It talks about which shapes are pleasing to the eye and has many examples. I highly recommend this bookFrom an Amazon.com customer: Raffan shows his expertise in both turning and writing. This book clearly expresses concepts of design and technique in a manner understandable by every level of wood turner. The chapters on acquiring and preparing wood are excellent. This book should hold a special place in every turner's library and will be worn out from use before a second edition can be printed!
From Brad Tallis: I don't own this book but have read through it. You really can't go wrong with a Raffan book. You can get may ideas on what shapes are good looking and his bowls are usually simple, yet elegant. From Library Journal It is hard to improve upon perfection, but Raffan does, bringing his classic introduction to woodturning up-to-date. Readers are introduced to the lathe, the methods of attaching wood to it, and (most importantly) turning tools and their proper care and use. Woodturning is arguably the most difficult woodworking discipline because proper technique is so important (a slip or moment of inattention and the project is gone, sometimes flying directly toward one's face). Raffan is a gifted instructor whose years as a production turner have developed a pragmatic style and an economy of motion. By mastering these techniques, one can move on to any style of woodturning. This is the standard title on the subject and an essential purchase; even libraries that own the original edition should consider this update, since many changes have occurred, especially in the area of equipment. From Brad Tallis: This is a must-have book. It covers more than sharpening wood turning tools, but what you learn will help sharpen (no pun intended) your sharpening skills. I see a lot of turners get frustrated with the quality of their work, and a lot of that can be tied to using dull or improperly sharpened tools.Book Description This book covers how to turn your hobby into a business. It talks about creating a business plan, profit margins, advertising, etc.

From Brad Tallis: This book has a bunch of projects in it such as rolling pins, scoops, etc. Raffan goes through each project step-by-step to explain how each is made. Good book. From Brad Tallis: I have watched this video and highly recommend it. Watching someone turn instead of reading about it shows way more information and I felt like I learned so much from watching this video. Highly recommended. From Brad Tallis: I have watched this video and also recommend it. Del Stubbs is another great turner that explains the process of turning very well. Highly recommended.
