Tuesday December 7, 2004, the Occultation of Jupiter
On this date, the Moon will pass over Jupiter. Jupiter rise time is 2h 37m EST and the position of Jupiter is as follows for the entry and exit times. Jupiter Az Alt entry time 3h 52m est 96.3 deg 13 deg exit time 4h 59m est 121.5 deg 24 deg
Venus/Mars 6:15am 6.5 deg above the horizon Sun 6:15am 16+ deg below the horizon
Venus and Mars are separated by a little more than 1 deg. It will require a low horizon to see Venus/Mars before the 7:51 sunrise but Venus being very bright the time window should be sufficient for this excellent photo opportunity of the Moon, Jupiter, Venus and Mars. Click here for the chart showing Jupiter, Moon, Venus and Mars. The horizon line is below Venus and Mars and above the Sun at 6:15am. The planets and the Moon are well marked on the chart. Pluto and Mercury are within 10 degrees of the Sun.
The cloud situation Tuesday morning ?? As of Sunday early evening, the probability is high that it will be overcast. It doesn't look very encouraging. ------------------------------------------------------- Photo Index
