It was this model shaver, the Philishave HP 1601, which led to my creating the Electric Shaver Page. Introduced in 1980, it is Philips' first Lift & Cut shaver with a traction and cutting system analogous to the manual twin-blade razor. In 1994, I inherited this shaver and it was in sorry shape. For sentimental reasons, I decided to restore this shaver. But I discovered that repair parts for a discontinued shaver that's at least 10 yeats old can be hard to come by. I eventually found the parts I needed after inquiring about parts availability with Philips DAP units in the Netherlands, the USA and Canada as well as a Canadian appliance shop chain. A local repair shop encouraged me to keep this shaver as it is indeed a well-built shaver with a very powerful motor. It was through the information I gathered and the contacts I made in restoring this shaver which inspired me to start the Electric Shaver Page in 1996 because there was no subjective electric shaver information on the World Wide Web at the time.
Do you have a Philishave or Norelco HP 1601 shaver that needs repair? Here's the blow-up diagram and parts list.
