Phil Krumholz sent me photos of this nearly complete shaver.
Here is the text which survives from the instruction manual:
POINTS TO REMEMBER
Face must be dry.
Cutter must lay flat on face. Guide shaver with forward movement.
Stroke to suit your convenience. Draw skin in a direction opposite to direction of hair growth.
Study the way the whiskers lay and shave the opposite way.
If motor slows down use a drop of oil on end of cutters.
Cutters must be kept clean.
Brush or blow hair off cutter while shaving.
Do not bear down on your Nu-Era. Move it easily on its own weight.
Do not use blade razor once you use Nu-Era shaver.
Cold cream applied while after shaving for the first few days helps remove scar tissue caused from your blade razor and restores skin to its natural condition.
Do not tamper with your Nu-Era shaver.
READ CAREFULLY
Please read carefully the directions contained in this booklet before using your Nu-Era electric shaver.
The art of dry shaving is comparatively new. It is different from the conventional way of shaving with a razor and naturally the technique is also different and must be acquired.
Dry shaving technique is very easy to acquire. It is mostly a matter of getting used to a new way of doing an old job. It may seem awkward at first but so did the old blade razor the first time.
The following pages with words and illustrations will tell you how to use and take care of your Nu-Era shaver.
READ CAREFULLY
Daily scraping with a sharp blade razor, the conventional way, has toughened your skin and built up a layer of scar tissue. The scar tissue will gradually disappear as you use your Nu-Era shaver, and your skin will become soft and smooth.
It may require one of more weeks before your skin is free from scale but as it gradually disappears, each dry shave will require less itme and will be cleaner and better.
Do not use a blade razor on your face once you use the Nu-Era, as it would only re-establish the scar tissue condition of your skin.
Do not hurry your first dry shave. Take your time--study your face . . . Notice the way your whiskers lay and shave the opposite way.
NU-ERA ELECTRIC SHAVER
Your Nu-Era shaver is powered with an electro-magnetic type motor. It has no contact points, gears or bearings. It will not interfere with radio reception. It is very quiet in operation and never needs to be oiled, except for cutters.
Nu-Era operates from any light socket or outlet of 110 volt 60 cycle alternating current. This current specification prevails almost everywhere except in the loop districts of some of the larger cities.
If you are not certain about the current available when visiting or staying at hotels, make inquiry abore connecting your Nu-Era to electrical outlet.
Should you accidently connecto to direct current outlet, motor will not start and if disconnected at once no harm will result.
HOW TO SHAVE WITH THE NU-ERA SHAVER
Your face must be dry. If face is washed before shaving it must be dried thoroughly before using shaver. Do not use lather, soap, brushless cream or other preparations. If skin is moist it may be dusted lightly with talc and wiped dry.
While your skin is undergoing treatment, the application of some good face cream after shaving will help restore your skin to its normal condition more quickly.
The following pages will show how to start the Nu-Era shaver. How to hold it on the face, etc. Follow the simple directions carefully and you and your Nu-Era are going to be pals for a long long while.
To
start motor, inset plug into any convenient outlet (110V/AC only). Press
white switch button down and move it forward.
To stop motor, move button back. Nu-Era starts and stops at the flip of the button.
While the switch cuts off electric current it is advisable to pull plug from outlet when shaver is not in use.
(Pages 7 to 10 are missing. Page 11 begins here.)
To
remove the hair from under the arms dust area well with talcum powder and
wipe dry.
Use Nu-Era with shear plate resting lightly and flat against skin. Arm should be held as illustrated to taut the skin. Use short easy stroke.
See general directions for further details.
The above illustration
shows how Nu-Era may be used in removing the hair from the neck. If
area is moist, dust with talcum powder and wipe dry.
Hair grows rapidly and uneven on the neck. The frequent use of your Nu-Era will add greatly to the family appearance.
CARE OF NU-ERA SHAVER
The design and construction of the Nu-Era shaver assures a maximum of service with the minimum of attention.
THE MOTOR--The motor being of the vibrating type requires no attention whatsoever (do not oil).
THE CUTTERS--The cuttng head consists of three parts. The shear plate, comb and guard. Shear plate and comb are made from chrom-alloy steel tempered and requires no attention other than keeping them clean and oiling the cutters occasionally.
OILING--Two drops on tension, as indicated on page 7 before shaving. A drop on teeth and ends of cutters to reach bearing surfaces occasionally. Use 3-1 or other light oil only.
ELECTRIC CORD--Nonkinkable and designed especially for the Nu-Era shaver, approved by Underwriters Laboratories.
SWITCH--Specially designed snap type. Starts and stops motor instantly.
LEATHER CARRYING CASE--Has grommeted hole for convenient hanging.
Illustration shows how to wrap cord around body of Nu-Era so it will fit into case snugly.
To unwind, hold the shaver at the cutter head and cord will unwind itself.
SERVICE
Your Nu-Era shaver has very few moving parts and with ordinary care should give you years of uninterrupted service.
Should your Nu-Era require servicing or repairs please take it to authorized dealer or send it directly to the factory via insured mail.
Do not tamper with it yourself or permit any one else to. The average repair man or electrician does not understand the mechanism of appliances of this nature.
The motor may warm up a little when in use, however this is a natural condition and does not harm the motor or impair its efficiency.
Keep cutters clean and free from foreign matter. Oil as often as necessary.
To clean cutters: Flush cutters with 3 in 1 or sewing machine oil while motor is running. Then shake and wipe off excess oil.
