Celebrate Pittsburgh Week, Kennywood Park

A Steel City Greyhounds Event
June 30 - July 6, 2008

Welcome to Kennywood

July 5, 2008, Danielle, Lilo and Stitch Burns, Mark and Megan McAleer, and Laurie, Forrest Brindlebutt, and Johnny Cash Walz took their turn as Steel City Greyhound Ambassadors. Kennywood Guest Services could not have been kinder or more welcoming to us.

Getting to Know You

After renewing their acquaintance with old friends, the SCG Greyhound Ambassadors put on their showbiz smiles and began to work the massive crowd.

The Racer Roller Coaster

We were swamped with enthusiastic visitors stopping by to meet the Greyhounds. It was as if fewer people were riding The Racer than cuddling and petting the retired racers.

mob scene

Young and old alike visited us. These little girls were entranced by Stitch and Megan and reluctant to leave. Behind Stitch, we see a Mom begging her little boy to say bye-bye to the Greyhounds and to go back to ride the rides or eat some cotton candy or something. "Just 10 more minutes, PLEASE, Mom!"

Johnny Cash, Megan, and Teen

Not just children either. Here Megan and Johnny Cash meet and greet one of the babes at Kennywood that evening.

Baby tries to steal Forrest

This toddler actually grabbed Forrest's leash and tried to take him for a walk. Quick -- give that Mom a brochure!

Princess Megan holds Court

One little girl wouldn't leave.

Megan gets a treat

Wouldn't budge. She would rather feed treats to Megan than have a snow cone or corn dog herself.

Forrest talks about Greyhounds

She listened intently as Forrest outlined the characteristics of his breed: "You see, we are sensitive creatures of rare beauty; docile, quiet, well-mannered, with a deep chest for great heart and lung capacity, slender legs for speed and agility, and well-developed muscles for endurance. We are the 6th fastest land animal, and make excellent house pets."

a young Marci or Kyle?

Clearly, she is a young Marci Anderson or Kyle Catanzarite in the making.

Thanks, Dad

Megan says, "Oh Dad, thank you for taking me to Kennywood. I love Kennywood and meeting all the little kids. Please tell all the other SCG volunteers how fun it is so they can come next year and not miss the frolicking family festivity!"

Greyhound Parade

In a scene reminiscent of the Beatles' movie "A Hard Day's Night," it took the Steel City Greyhounds Nightly Greyhound Parade 45 minutes to get from The Kangaroo to The Tunnel as we tried to leave.

Pappy
Bye bye, Kennywood! See you next year!!

Thanks to Denise Brown for organizing this event and all the wonderful SCG volunteers who participated to make this high profile Meet and Greet a success.
