Well, it seems that my former partner in running the Windows 3.1 WebRing, N1, has decided to use his website to badmouth me and accuse me of "stealing the Calmira iWarp Program WebRing and insidiously taking it over as my own", while he makes himself out to be the angelic little victim. Well, you know what?

It's TRUE! HAHAHAHA!!! I'm VICIOUSLY INSIDIOUSLY EVIL!!!! MWAHAHAHA!!

Ha. Yeah.

Anyway...

He's decided to publicly post this whole page of how evil and nasty I am, filled with totally false accusations (which he knows are purely false) about me. Hey! It's his website, if he wants to use it for slander, I suppose he can go right ahead.

But for those of you who want the details (*cough*truth*cough*) on this, read on.

Here is what he had to say:

Greetings visitors,

On 10/26/2002 I (N1) and PC Freak (former co-RingMaster of the Windows 3.1 WebRing) jointly adopted the Calmira iWarp Program WebRing. From the beginning PC Freak made it clear that he wanted to merge (move) all of the iWarp WebRing members into the Windows 3.1 WebRing and then CLOSE DOWN the iWarp WebRing completely. I assured him that this would be the wrong move because the iWarp Webring exsisted for 4 years before we came along & adopted it, so it would be unfair of us to shut it down. He insisted that a merger would be best so as to increase the number of members in the Windows 3.1 WebRing. I disagreed & told him that both WebRings should be preserved.

How dramatic! He sure tries to make me out to be so EVIL since I wanted to merge the rings and close down iWarp. (while he "assured" me of how wrong I was...) Well, he leaves something out- From the beginning, N1 also made it clear that he wanted to merge the two rings. Yes, believe it or not, N1 had the same EVIL idea! At first, N1 had completely agreed with me on this idea. It was the original reason for adopting the ring in the first place. Check out these excerpts from emails between us:

(in an email informing him of the adoption idea)

PC Freak: What I had in mind was for us to adopt this ring and then sometime down the road combine it with the Windows 3.1 WebRing, to increase the number of sites that we have. What do you think?

(his response)

N1: don't hesitate lets apply to adopt that ring right away!!! man if we become the WebMasters of that ring then we will see a Great deal of growth in our Win3.x ring...

Which implies joining the two rings as I had suggested.

(later, in an email from N1 concerning a draft to be sent to the iWarp members)

N1:I figured saying something about bringing together the Win3.x & Calmira communities goes along with the idea of merging the rings...I didn't want to write anything that would suggest that we want to build up that particular ring...now how the heck are we going to get them to agree to a merge?!

It's totally clear that N1 also liked the idea of joining the two rings, instead of keeping them both up. It wasn't until almost two months later that he suggested keeping both rings active.

I suggested updating the Navigation Code Banners so that the Windows 3.1 WebRing's Banner would offer a link to the iWarp Ring, & the iWarp WebRing's Banner would offer a link to the Windows 3.1 Ring. The added link on both Banners would read "In association With" or "In Partnership With" so as to show that the two WebRings were partnered & working together for a common goal. I told PC Freak that a partnership of the Windows 3.1 WebRing & the Calmira WebRing would serve as a very powerfull tool for the entire Win 3.1/Calmira community. He then complied with my sugestion, but I had the feeling that he still wanted to proceed with a merger.

Now this is partly true. We had talked about the pros/cons to both options. However, later, I did start to wonder a little bit. After all, the purpose of the Windows 3.1 WebRing was to create a single central location for DOS/Win3.1x/Calmira users to go for resources. What's the point of keeping both up when we could join the two and make an even bigger resource? But I never did mention this to N1 because I was still willing to go along with his plan.

As co-RingMaster I was assigned the task of creating the updated Navigation Code Banner & PC Freak was assigned the task of drafting the E-mail that would be sent out to each member informing them of the updated Banner. Though I DID create the updated banner that I was assigned, About 4-5 months had past & PC Freak still had not drafted the E-mail. He gave me excuses as to why he had not drafted the E-mail, such as he had totally forgot, then he said that his floppy disk destroyed his draft then he totally forgot again.

Hmm, gee, he's leaving something out again! N1 completely leaves out the fact that, while he says that he completed his drafts, he also never emailed me or contacted me in any way in those 4-5 months. For all I know, he may have never completed his drafts, either! He says he did, but he never sent them. Due to some things that occured around the holidays, I was unable to to get to my drafts, and had emailed him to tell him this. He had mentioned an approx date by which was was going to send out his drafts. However these never came, and I was beginning to wonder if he was even still interested in running these WebRings. And yes, those of you who have used floppy disks know that this can happen, I did lose one of the drafts that I was working on due to a bad floppy when I tried to transfer to a different computer. And hey! I'll even admit that it was probably stupid of me to not keep a backup copy on the original computer before transfering it by floppy.

He then sent me an E-mail stating that he is getting out of the joint-ringmaster situation. He removed his site from the Windows 3.1 WebRing & then stole control of the Calmira iWarp Program Webring by switching the ID to his account!? That is not fair to me, nor is it fair to the members of the two WebRings who would have benefitted from the partnership.

"That is not fair to me..."

<>Yeah, sure, like what he's done to others before was fair... *cough*lightspeed*cough*

But I digress.

Anyway, I waited a while, then I decided to email him to see if he was still interested in the rings. After being criticized and insulted by N1 in following emails concerning ours drafts, it became pretty clear to me that even if this matter was resolved, things probably wouldn't get any better if we continued to work together. (like I would, anyway) I decided that it was time to end the joint-ringmaster situation with the rings that we had. I decided that I would take the iWarp ring with me, and here's why: Since we were equal partners, isn't it only fair that we each get a ring? I felt it to be my right to keep the Calmira iWarp Program WebRing, which, as seen in the emails above, was my idea to adopt in the first place. Due to previous experiences with N1, I knew that it would've been highly unlikely for him to let the ring go peacefully, so I didn't really have any other choice but to register it with my user ID.

I gladly take the full responsibility of the Windows 3.1 Webring as the new sole RingMaster. That is not a problem because I cannot force him to work with me. But he never discussed anything with me, his actions were completely unilateral.

As if he discussed everything he did with his former partner(s) in the webring situation... It became clear that trying to discuss these issues any further than I already had would only result in N1 accusing me and criticizing me more, along with the high probability that he would take both rings for himself.

PC Freak is now setting up the Calmira iWarp Program Webring to compete with the Windows 3.1 WebRing. This could not possibly benefit either Ring. His actions have already hurt the iWarp WebRing.

Hmm... steady increase in new members since acquisition... Yup, I'm really hurting the ring here... Besides, this is 100% false. I have done nothing to "compete" with him or his ring. My purpose never has been, nor will it ever be to compete with N1 or the Windows 3.1 WebRing. I only want to help benefit the DOS/Win3.1x/Calmira communites, as I did when I helped run the Windows 3.1 WebRing. And with the steady increase of new members, I do not believe my actions have hurt the Calmira iWarp Program WebRing in any way.

This next part has since been removed from his page (since it was proven wrong), but I leave it here for reference:

I encourage everyone reading this to take notice that Calmira.Org (the creators of the Calmira Shell Program) is no longer affiliated with the iWarp Program Webring! They removed the iWarp WebRing Navigation Code Banner from their site!

Carefully read the following timeline:

12/16/1999 - The Calmira iWarp Program Webring was created. During which time Calmira.Org was an active & founding member... (NOTE: active members, are represented on their WebRings Hub with a Lime Green Icon next to the sites name & description. These sites are members which have the nav code banner linked on their sites. Inactive members are represented with a Red Icon by the sites name & description!)

10/26/2002 - I (N1) and PC Freak (former co-RingMaster of the Windows 3.1 WebRing) jointly adopted the Calmira iWarp Program WebRing. During which time Calmira.Org continued to be an active member...

4/5/2003 - PC Freak stole the Calmira iWarp Program Webring away from the Windows 3.1 WebRing & named himself the sole ringmaster. Less than a week later Calmira.Org removed the iWarp WebRing Navigation Code Banner from their site!! (Click HERE & visit their site to see for yourselves.)

Yeah... I have explained how I did not simply "steal" the webring, so I won't waste more time on it here.

Notice that for approximately 4 whole years prior to the adoption, Calmira.Org was an active member of the iWarp Program Webring. Calmira.Org remained an active member for an additional 5 months after the adoption while I was still a co-RingMaster. Almost immediately after PC Freak stole the ring & named himself the sole ringmaster, Calmira.Org removed the iWarp WebRing Navigation Code Banner from their site!! PC Freak may view all of this as a coinsidence, but I do not. Calmira.Org is & continues to be the Home for the Calmira Win95 Style Shell Program for Win 3.1x. PC Freak has by his dubious actions single handedly lost as a member the site which is Home to the Program that the Calmira iWarp Program Webring was originally meant to represent! Nice going PC Freak!

Dubious actions, eh? Don't get me started...

I still view this as a coincidence, and here's why:

Soon after I assumed control of the Calmira iWarp Program WebRing, I discovered that none of the active members were even still registered with WebRing IDs! This means that none of the members could edit their site info or get the nav code if they needed it. It also means that little did he know, no one in the ring ever recieved the emails sent out by N1 and I when we first adopted the ring! The same is with the intro email I sent after N1 and I parted ways. This means Calmira.org never recieved any emails concerning the ring. Unless the webmaster had gone to the ring and seen the small text in the corner now saying the name of the new owner, which previously said "Abandoned", there is a very high probability that he thought the ring was dead. Which would explain the removal of his (very old) navigation code.

UPDATE: Since the writing of this, the new official homepage of Calmira, Calmira.de, has been reinstated as a member of the ring, along with the update to the iWarp link of the Calmira links page. Just further proof that my "dubious actions" had nothing to do with the nav code removal.

And now you know... the rest... of the story...

</horrible joke>

<>Anyway, he clearly wants to try to degrade me and the Calmira iWarp webring, so I figured I should make my side of this thing available. Normally I wouldn't bother with him and his petty insults, but since he keeps it on his website, I feel I should keep this here as well. It's actually pretty surprising to me that he'd post so many things that are so blatantly false, when- well, actually, it doesn't surprise me at all, when I think about it... If he wants to have his little fun, then sure, he can go right ahead. (Meanwhile, the rest of us will move on with our lives...)

The only thing I really dont like is having to use the Calmira iWarp Program WebRing's homepage for this stuff. The purpose of this site is to help the users of DOS, Windows 3.1x, and Calmira find what they are looking for. It's not supposed to be a place to bring up personal differences between me and my former partner. However, I can't just let his false accusations and insults go unanswered, without giving the truth. Should he decide to remove his page of slander, I'll gladly get rid of this page as well.

I Endure,
PCF
