Stephen A. Gottlieb,
Professor Emeritus of English
Quinnipiac University

Home and Personal Interests

I live in Amherst, MA, with my wife, Barbara Van Noord, a therapist and poet. You might enjoy reading a sample from her book, The Three Hands of God. I have two daughters, Kelly, a veterinarian and kayaker, and Allie, a city reporter and rock/jazz drummer. My interests include hiking, cooking spicy rice dishes, eternally calibrating my audio equipment, collecting classical music (vinyl & CD), and testing computer software.

Research Interests

I am fascinated by the complexities in the songs and song symphonies of Gustav Mahler, and have written articles concerning the interrelations of art, music, and literature. I am a past president of the Association for Integrative Studies and a former editor of Issues in Integrative Studies, the journal of the Association for Integrative Studies, a national organization of interdisciplinarians. For fourteen years I chaired the Department of English at Quinnipiac University
