Are you worried about your children's use of the Internet ?

The Internet is the most incredible social phenomenon of our times. Like many things in life, the wonderful benefits of this information age are counterbalanced by the dark side of this unlimited access to information. This includes online gambling, the incredible access to pornography of every imaginable kind, contact with "online friends" that may be child pornographers or child molesters, access to offbeat or unusual social groups, racist or supremacist groups, information on obtaining or making drugs, etc.

Children can also become obsessed with online games. These start out innocently enough, the kids claim "everyone has this game at school" and in fact many are sold at game stores in the mall. However, these are not start-to-finish games, but endless virtual reality games involving thousands of players all over the world acting out as computer characters. These games become as real as life itself, and children can become obsessed with playing them. Some type of computer control may be needed to limit the amount of time they spend, and when they can play these games.

Myspace.com and Facebook.com have been criticized for allowing children to post a lot of personal information that may be too revealing for comfort. Are your kids talking to strangers? What are they saying to these people?

I can discuss with you a variety of ways to monitor Internet use in your home or business. You can control  the websites your children can use, and those you do not wish them to access. You can control the times of day the Internet can be used, and you can limit the number of hours the Internet can be used per day.

Please call me to discuss your situation and to learn more about how I can help you deal with this issue.
