Philmont Trek 34


Crew 717-G2 was led by Mark Elliott, taking Itinerary #34. #34 was a 90+ mile superhike, considered "super strenuous", which goes in a counterclockwise loop starting in northeastern Philmont, going down through the middle and looping through the southern areas, coming back up the middle and then hiking base into base camp.  The crew broke records on several days for their lightning fast pace!!

July 17 - Day  1: Arrived at Philmont, opening campfire that evening

July 18 - Day  2: Departed for the trek; camped at Vaca camp

July 19 - Day  3: Hiked to Harlan camp; burro racing

July 20 - Day  4: Hiked to Deer Lake Mesa camp

July 21 - Day  5: Hiked to Cyphers Mine; panning for gold, blacksmithing; pick up food at Ute Gulch

July 22 - Day  6: Hiked to Comanche Camp camp; met the Trek 26 crew after the "snow hail" storm!

July 23 - Day  7: Hiked to Black Mountain camp; nasty weather and we hardly left our tents!

July 24 - Day  8: Hiked to Lower Bonito camp; one of the most beautiful camps of the trek

July 25 - Day  9: Hiked to Fish Camp; fly tying; fishing; toured the lodge; picked up food Phillips Junction

July 26 - Day 10: Hiked to Rimrock Park camp; got water and had Mexican dinner at Abreu

July 27 - Day 11: Hiked to Miners Park camp; rock climbing and rappeling

July 28 - Day 12: Hiked in over the Tooth to headquarters and tent city, evening campfire

July 29 - Day 13: Departed very early for Colorado Springs and flight home
