The 2008 Trip - Our Itinerary

Bolton will send 2 crews of 22 people total. Our crew numbers are 717-N1 (Mr. Bosselait) and 717-N2 (Mr. Anderson)

WHEN:  July 15-29, 2008

ITINERARY:
July 15
- We fly from Logan to Denver on Northwest Airlines to begin our trip. Bolton is in "Group A" departing Boston at 6:10AM via Minneapolis,  arriving at Denver 10:17AM, on Flights NW 721Q and NW 561Q.

Then we travel by bus on Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma bus lines leaving Denver and heading south to Colorado Springs. We may be able to tour the US Air Force Academy!!  In Colorado Springs we make our way over to the Pikes Peak cog railway train for the 4:00PM trip up to the 14,110 foot summit!  Box lunches are handed out before the train leaves, it's a mid afternoon snack. Afterwards we eat a BIG dinner at Country Buffet in Colorado Springs. After dinner we travel one hour to Canon City, CO and stay at the Holy Cross Abbey gymnasium.

July 16 - An early 7AM breakfast at Holy Cross Abbey cafeteria followed by whitewater rafting on the Arkansas River in the Royal Gorge, using Echo Canyon Outfitters. We depart around noon, and then have a one hour bus ride over to Pueblo, CO to eat lunch at another Country Buffet. Then we travel to La Junta, CO and visit Bent's Old Trading Fort, followed by an early dinner at the Otero Junior College cafeteria in La Junta. We stay at the Koshare Indian museum at the Otero college, we will watch a performance of Indian dances and tour the world-class museum of American Indian artifacts. After the show, we sleep in the "kiva" (Indian lodge) where the dances were performed.

July 17 - Eat breakfast at the Otero College cafeteria, and then have a 3 hour bus ride across the plains, into New Mexico, and arrive at Philmont by about 11:00AM. A ranger will meet us and stay with us for the next 3 days. Lunch is our first meal at the dining hall at Philmont. We'll get our pictures taken, have medical re-checkups, and get our tent assignments for the evening. Dinner in the dining hall, followed by a welcome campfire show.

July 18 - We get our Philmont-supplied equipment such as tents, cooking gear, ropes, etc. and we'll go through a final backpack check with our Ranger. Before lunch, we will clean out our tents and pack our excess belongings into lockers. We will then depart the Philmont base camp on our 11 day trek

July 18 afternoon through July 28 afternoon - our Philmont 11 day treks!!!

July 28 - We will return from our treks, clean up, turn in our gear, get our personal belongings from the lockers, and go to our tents to prepare for the trip home. Dinner in the dining hall, followed by a final evening campfire show and awards.

July 29 - Buses arrive about 3AM, we depart soon after for a 6 hour bus ride to Denver airport, and fly home.
