Tamaki is a Maori Village. First you take the Waka (bus trip) to the entrance to the village. You then undergo the Te Wero (The Challenge) where a warrior goes though the challenge of peace, by posturing, with both his weapon and his movements. Once the challenge has been performed, he presents a Teka (peace offering) to the visitors, and the Powhiri (formal welcome) is then performed, and you are allowed to enter the Marae (village). In the Marae vistors make their way to to the Wharenui (The big house) where you enjoy a performance by the Rangi-a-Tea Cultural group. After the perfomance you are invited into Wharekai (The food house) to enjoy a meal cooked in the tradional style in a Hangi (Hearth Oven). The evening ends with the Poroporoaki (The closing ceremony) where the visiting chiefs are presented with tokens of friendship. I'm sorry there aren't more pictures, but I took more video than pictures, and unfortunately, due to space restrictions, I can't post the videos here.
