Young Adults Helping Out Others 2003!
The Y.A.H.O.O. Mission:
· To encourage and foster youth involvement in the community
· To educate youth in the concept of volunteerism, commitment, community
service and social skills
What we expect from Y.A.H.O.O. youth
A commitment:
· A total of 6 - 20 Hours of service (A minimum of six hours
(three dates) is required)
· Saturday mornings 8:45AM - 11:00AM
· Spring dates (See registration)
· Fall dates (See registration)
If you're not sure about the fall dates now, a post card will be mailed
to you to remind you to register
· Medications must be available and provided by the youth
(e.g. epi-pens, inhalers and any other indications)
To be Punctual:
· All volunteers must be prompt
· Arrive by 8:45AM
· The drop off and pick up site is:
Y.A.H.O.O. tool shed, 1 Park Street,
Sterling
· To sign in and out
· To wear appropriate clothing
§ No sandals
§ Y.A.H.O.O. T-shirt
or sweatshirt required
To bring your own tools:
· Rakes
· Brooms
· Gloves
· Water bottle
To be courteous and polite . . . a must behavior
To refrain from tobacco products . . . they are prohibited
What do we expect from Y.A.H.O.O. parents?
· Please make sure your child is prompt
· PICK-UP and DROP-OFF point is the Mary Ellen Butterik Building
· Prompt drop-off 8:45 AM
· Prompt pick-up 11:00 AM
· Supply tools and encourage your child in this endeavor
· Supply registration and medical history form
Spring deadline: April 16, 2003
Fall deadline: October 10, 2003
· The following two items are essential to the program
· Please consider volunteering at least one or more times in the
spring and one or more times in the fall. As the program grows we need more
vehicles to transport young adults.
· Please do not put down "Call when needed" when listing
availability. Please pick what works for you.
What to expect from the Y.A.H.O.O. staff:
Y.A.H.O.O. staff WILL NOT:
· Pick-up or deliver a volunteer to or from their home
· Allow the kids to be unattended in any structure or work site
Y.A.H.O.O. staff WILL provide:
· Phone numbers for emergency and inclement weather
· Transportation to and from a work side from the Mary Ellen Butterick
Building
· Y.A.H.O.O.
T-shirts and Sweatshirts
· Completion certificates:
6 - 11 Hours Participation
12 - 15 Hours Bronze
16 - 19 Hours Silver
20 - Plus Hours Gold
· Scheduling of tasks and at no time will these jobs require:
Dangerous machinery or tools
Ladders
Anything with a motor
· Insure there are at least two supervisors, 21 years old or older,
at each work site
· Insure first aid kits are available at every site
Who is eligible for services through Y.A.H.O.O.?
· Senior citizens in our community
· People whose circumstances require them to need a helping hand
Things you need to know:
· September 7, 2003 is the Sterling Fair Cleanup day. Hours are
4:30PM to 6:30PM (Meet at the Sterling Airport)
· Sweatshirts will be issued after 10 hours of volunteer work
· Sterling Y.A.H.O.O.

· Cancellations will be posted to the website by 8:15AM the morning
of the day affected
· IF you have no internet access, you will receive a call from a
committee member.
· If you sign up for a week and can't come, notify Mr. Beaupre or
Mrs. Carlin, 48 hours prior, at the phone numbers or E-mail addresses below.
· Absences without 48 hours notification will result in a warning.
Two (2) warnings equal removal from the program.
· Please remember that you will receive a confirmation post card
from the program stating the dates you signed up for. We do this so you
can check your calendar for any conflicts. At this point, please know you
are expected to call Mrs. Carlin or Mr. Beaupre immediately with any conflicts
or date discrepancies.
