THE DESERT PHONE BOOTH
Out in the middle of nowhere in the Mojave Desert, there is a phone booth. Nearly fifteen miles from the nearest highway, down a rutted road full of deep sand that will stop most passenger cars, we found a phone. It was ringing. It hardly ever stops ringing. We answered calls for over an hour in the freezing cold desert winter winds, between rain squalls. It was Wednesday, March 8th, 4:00 PM. People calling from all over the world, who have heard from one place or another that this phone booth exists. I won't try to duplicate the efforts of others who have created web pages about this phone booth, but you can go to one of the search engines and do a search on "Desert Phone Booth", or click on Desert Phone.
My buddy Dean was on the phone taking calls for hours.
These pictures give you an idea of what the phone booth looks like up close. Windows all blown out, bullet holes everywhere. cool graffiti written on every square inch. Campfire ring next to it. If you are ever near I-15 and the Cima road exit, a few miles west of the Nevada border, you need to find the booth, and go answer it for a while. It is addicting. People are so blown away that there is actually somebody out there answering it. If you cant find the directions on the page I linked to above, let me know and Ill give you better instructions. You need a 4x4 to get in and out easily.
