Nop Velthuizen from Holland brought his Bean kites and hi-tech buggy to the desert. Independent rear suspension and leading link Springer front end. Wow! The single surface wings like the Bean and the Peter Lynn C-Quad, were really showing their capabilities this year. Impressive performance, affordable price.
Dave Arnold had a bicycle mount kit from REI for his Garmin GPS. "Click" and it's on there. Cool.
The German buggy racers have similar rigs. Libre buggies or similar . Very fast, very stable on the Playa.
The crew from Team Holland. Pop open the pic of the buggies and check out the huge weights they attach to the rear axle. High winds transfer more energy into speed when the rear can't slide out. We all left a lot of rubber on the lakebed this year. Many tires gave it up. 6-ply slicks or better are the ticket for this abrasive surface.
Jon Matteson from Kent Washington brought this Libre buggy home with him. You can see the contrast in designs when placed next to his Peter Lynn Competition buggy, still the best all round freestyle ride of choice for many. With more weight forward, and a wider wheelbase, the stability at high speed in the Libre converts many. Peter Lynn has a similar frame design which is very stable, however the seat in the Libre, will win you over.
Check out the detail on how adjustable the rear axle is for caster and camber. Oh yes, my Red Libre next to Red Rental Ranger, Desert Phone Booth attack vehicle.
Mostly I took video of the racing and other people shots. I will work on clipping some of it for here. Check back in a week or so.
