20% - Homework / Projects / Journal
30% - Quiz
50% - Test
Completion of assignments is an important component of a student’s progress.
Homework will be assigned regularly and is due the next class.
Questions are to be copied out [with the exception of word problems].
Students are to show all their work, all of the time.
All questions are to be attempted.
HW grading is as follows:
5 points – all problems completed or attempted to best of students ability
3 points – homework is incomplete, or does not show sufficient effort/work
0 points – homework is not attempted or minimal effort put forth
Within each chapter, late daily homework assignments may be turned in for the highest possible grade of a “D”.
NO late work will be accepted after the chapter test.
Tests:
Test dates will be arranged in advance.
If student is absent on the day of a test, the test will be taken the day the student returns.
There will be NO retakes on tests.
Quizzes:
Quizzes will always be announced and are based on previous assignments.
If student is absent on the day of a quiz, the quiz will be taken the day the student returns.
There will be NO retakes on quizzes.
Absence
Students are responsible for making up missed work due to absences.
Missed work is due is the same number of school days as absence as per school absence policy.
Contact teacher ahead of time to schedule make up work due to vacations.
Extra Help
I am available for extra help afterschool and will gladly work with students on any questions on their assignments.
Letter Grades
A+ = 98% or higher
A = 93% to 97%
A- = 90% to 92%
B+ = 87% to 89%
B = 83% to 86%
B- = 80% to 82%
C+ = 77% to 79%
C = 73% to 76%
C- = 70% to 72%
D+ = 67% to 69%
D = 63% to 66%
D- = 60% to 62%
U = 59% or lower
Science Grading Policy
Every assignment, lab or test students take will have an associated point value. Student grades are determined by the the following formula:
total grade = # points earned divided by # of points total
The grade breakdown by type of assignment can be generalized to
Homework, Labs, Projects, Participation - 60%
Test, Quiz - 40%
Homework completion is essential to understanding of material and is necessary for success in class.
Homework will be assigned several days before it is due to provide adequate time to complete the assignment because I recognize that we all have many conflicting demands on our time.
Assignments will be due on the assigned due date and students are responsible for managing their time effectively.
Late work is penalized -40%, so it is very important for students to turn in their assignments on time.
Late work will NOT be accepted after the test for a unit or chapter.
Laboratory activities that are missed due to absences will be expected to be made up afterschool during extra help time. Students are responsible for making appointment with me to set up a convenient time.
Tests and quizzes will be announced ahead of time and review sheets provided to prepare students for the assessment. It is important that students fully complete the assigned review sheet to prepare for the exams and they will count as homework grades.
There will be NO retakes on tests or quizzes.
