How to Succeed in Science/Math Class
I believe that all students can succeed in science class by participating in class, putting forth effort, making good choices and having enthusiasm.
All of my students are expected to participate in science class activities and labs. Science class will be very hands-on course and students must participate and actually "do the science" to understand the concepts.
Math class will focus on preparing students to succeed on the ISAT exam in the Spring term. Students will learn math by practicing the basic skills needed to succeed, while applying these skills to problem-solving activities that will encourage students to think critically about problems and solve them using a variety of their math skills in their toolbox. I want students to be engaged in cooperative learning and to the problem-solving process so they learn to apply mathematics in real-world applications.
Regular attendance is absolutely essential to keeping up with material and hands-on experience during the course.
Science/Math are like any other subject or activity in life. You have to put for the effort to be successful. This means paying attention in class, doing your homework on a regular basis, and putting forth effort in class activities. It is vital that students complete their activities and homework because they are the basis for the understanding of the material. If students have questions, concerns or just need a quiet place to study, please come in for extra help or contact me.
Students will be expected to be responsible for their learning and making good choices. This encompasses choosing to pay attention in class, doing your homework, coming in for extra help or asking questions if you are confused and making up work if you were absent.
The last element that is necessary for success in science/math class is enthusiasm. I do not expect everyone to be a perfect scientist/mathematician in class, but I do expect you to put forth effort into your learning and have some fun experiences in the process.
