This is the start of the bolt. I am starting with a piece of 15/16" Drill Rod.
I started by facing one end and the center drilling a hole for the live center. Here the piece is centered in the 4 jaw chuck, the live center is set in place and the piece is ready to be turned down to fit in the receiver.
Here is the bolt after being turned down to fit the receiver tube.
The next step was to turn down a step where the Handle Bushing will go.
After that the bolt was cut down to its rough size on the bandsaw.
I then rechucked the leftover piece and again faced it and center drilled it.
Just like on the Barrel Bushing I then used several different drill bits and brought the hole up to about .500"
Then using the boring bar a finished the bushing to size to fit on the bolt.
Next I applied some layout dye and marked the bushing for the locking pin grove.
Using a cutoff tool I cut a 3/16" grove for the locking pin. If I had a rotary table I would have done this on the mill so it wouldn't have had to go all the way around the bushing but I work with what I can afford right now.
After all that was done I cut the bushing off on the bandsaw and then rechucked it in the lathe and faced the ends and brought it to its final size of about 13/16".
Here's the progress on the bushing so far. I still have to cut one more groove running length wise for the locking pin and I need to drill and tap for the handle.
Here's the bushing on the bolt just to check the fit.
Then I test fit the two parts in the Receiver.
