Fall 2006
Stingrays Alumni News It seems I say this every year, but what can I say we just get getting better and better. You guys did a great job of setting standards for the kids in our program today and they in turn are doing likewise for our future. Our organization is now in its 21st year of existence and we topped the 500 member barrier earlier this month (Oct 2006). We have opened a new location at the East Cobb Swim & Tennis center (Old Canton Road), some of you swam summer league there. We have over 100 “Rookie’s” swimming and starting to learn the RAYS tradition of “Training for Life”. As for swimming performances this past 12 months; our highlights included having 2 swimmers making USA National Teams – a first. Bryan Lundquist (Auburn) will compete at the 2007 World University Games in Thailand (August) and Kristine Polley (Sprayberry HS) will compete at the Junior Pan Pac’s (January) in Maui. We will update our website to let you know how they do for the Red, White and Blue. We had three swimmers and one coach selected to the Southern Zone Championships for GA (August); they were Samantha Bosma, Erin Reisinger and Jessica Smith. They all performed great and Erin made her Under 18 National cut. Erin also set a new GA 13/14 record in the 100 Fly (1:05 LCM) and Kristine set 2 new GA SCY records (13/14) in the 100 (1:03) & 200 BR (2:15). We took two swimmers to Spring Nationals, both finaled (Kristine & Chris Thompson); we took one swimmer to Junior Nationals (Erin). Three of our 2006 graduates are swimming in college; Shea Walkley (Cincinnati), Andy Puciaty (College of Charleston) and Chris Thompson (UGA). Our parents & volunteers have been awesome, especially hosting our meets that are attracting teams from all over the US. We will be hosting the 2007 Sectional Championships at GA Tech (March 8-11). This meet is one of the premier SCY meets in the South. If you want to see some fast swimming, mark your calendar. As for the staff, Andy had a new son (Bennett), Pike was named GA AG Coach of the year and Maggie was on the 2006 Zone staff. Me, I’m losing weight and swimming, plus Cynthia and I are foster parents – for Golden Retrievers. Remember to keep up to date with all the RAYS happenings by visiting our website www.stingraysswimming.com Be safe and remember all you learned in the pool can be utilized today – Training for Life You’re Coach, always |
| Class of 1993 Meredith C. Moore-Hansen moore@eaglestrategies.com 404-459-2073 Once I got 2005 behind me, 2006 has been much better. I survived 3 brain surgeries, 33 radiation treatments to my brain and one year of chemotherapy. This year I have completed 2 triathlons, a half marathon and have a 70 mile bike ride scheduled in November. I was able to place pretty well in the triathlons, as well. My financial planning practice has been going very well. Business continues to pickup after doing this for over 8 years. Erik, my son, is now 18 months and a lot of fun. My husband, Keith, continues to be supportive and has been very successful, as well, in the telecom industry. |
| Class of 1994 Bobby Mayhew rsmayhew1975@hotmail.com Hello All, I am probably like many of you and can't believe another year has gone by. Things are going well for me here in Raleigh, NC. I'm very much enjoying the area and have made a few good friends. Work is going well, but hectic. Over the last year I have gone from production supervisor to engineer back to production supervisor, but the experience as been good allowing me to learn more about the inter-workings of the pharmaceutical plant. Earlier this year I had the chance to go out west to Park City, Utah, with my sister skiing. The 4-day trip was a blast, which means I will probably not being doing much skiing around here again. In the last few months I have taken up the game of golf, which is pretty much the only exercise I am really getting these days. I'm not that good yet - I shoot in the 100s, but I am hoping that by next year I can say that I am shooting in the 70 to 80s. The biggest news of the year hands down in that I married my long time girlfriend, Kari, at the Longview Poe House in Raleigh this past June. The wedding was wonderful, but pretty much a blur. We spend a week at a resort in St. Lucia for our honeymoon. It was great just being able to lie around the beach and pool for a week. I hope the past year has found everyone well and next year will do the same. Take care, Bobby Mayhew |
