Paragliding on Mt. Hood, February 2001
On the morning of February 24, 2001, Steve Roti started calling other members
of the Cascade Paragliding Club with the news that weather conditions on
Mt. Hood appeared propitious for a paragliding descent. We hurried up to the
mountain to take advantage of the unusual conditions, rode up the Magic Mile
chairlift, and hiked to the top of the Palmer snowfield. Our reward was
a delightful flight from the top of the Palmer snowfield, down the
White River Canyon, and ending with our landing at the White River Canyon
snowpark. Steve, along with his baby daughter Elizabeth, served as the ground
crew, thus enabling his wife Tina to lead the ascent up the mountain.
