Lenten/Advent Spirituality

Small group faith-sharing program. Small groups of 8-10 gather once a week during Lent. They read the Scripture readings for the following Sunday; meditate on them; discuss them; and, share how they can apply the Scriptures to their lives. A group leader guides the group. Families and teens can also participate through activities geared toward the Sunday readings

Evangelization

The mission of the St. Jude Evangelization Committee is to promote the hearing and living of the Good News of Jesus Christ among all our parishioners, and our loved ones and acquaintances who have left the Church. We take as our example, the words of St. Francis of Assisi: "Preach the Gospel; if necessary, use words."

In practice, we undertake to spread the Gospel via faith-sharing groups, Scripture studies, prayer and spirituality groups, the Parish Mission, Lenten/Advent programs, and the St. Jude Outreach Fund, among others.

Faith Facts

The Evangelization Committee sponsors this catechetical series to provide knowledge about the Catholic Faith in a way that helps you develop a more vital relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.  Each month, the parish bulletin provides short excerpts from an article about an aspect of Catholic faith or morals.   These excerpts come from articles, aimed at clearly explaining Church teaching, written by Catholics United for the Faith.

Click here for the full article from which the latest bulletin excerpt was taken.

Welcome Home

WELCOME HOME is our parish's way of helping inactive Catholics return home to their Catholic faith. Through personal spirituality and direction, shared faith experience, or continuing education in the Catholic Faith, St. Jude parishioners welcome returning Catholics. There is no hard sell or heavy duty theology; just ordinary people sharing their Catholic spirituality and an understanding of their faith.

If you know someone who has been away from the Catholic Church and is looking to return, WELCOME HOME may be the gentle push they need.

Faith Sharing Group

On the first Monday evening of each month, a small group gathers to continue the spirit of Disciples in Mission and share faith, outside of the Lenten season. Guided by the Paulist publication, Share the Word, the group discusses and meditates on the Lectionary readings for the following Sunday, and seeks to apply the Word of God to their daily lives

Lay People to Hospital

This ministry involves visiting parishioners who are in the hospital. A group of volunteers take turns with weekly mid-week visits to Doylestown hospital, getting a list of parishioners from the hospital staff. If the person wishes to be visited that day, the volunteer spends some time with them and usually ends the visit with a prayer. These visits are in addition to the clergy visits which usually take place on weekends. Parishioners wishing to join this most rewarding ministry should contact the coordinator or the rectory office.

Pre-Cana Ministry

Intended for engaged couples and about-to-be-engaged couples, Pre-Cana instruction is required prior to the sacrament of marriage. Sessions include presentations on such topics as communication, adjustments, marital love, human sexuality, spirituality, Church regulations and the Rite of Marriage. The instructional team is made up of several married couples from the parish. Couples should consult with the priest in charge of their marriage preparation. PLEASE CALL THE RECTORY FOR AN APPOINTMENT (215) 822-0179.

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia requires a minimum of six months notice for all weddings. Archdiocesan program is also offered at various times throughout the year.

Pre-Jordan Ministry

An important period of instruction and reflection, Pre-Jordan helps the new parents better understand the implication of Baptism, the first sacrament for their young child, their family and the Church at large. A Pre-Jordan session is scheduled every two months affording parents a number of choices for attendance. The session is one evening lasting approximately one and a half hours. It is suggested that parents contact the Rectory approximately six months before the expected birth date, so that they will have a maximum number of choices of dates to attend.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults  (RCIA)

RCIA/Inquiry Classes are designed to offer a basic understanding of the doctrine and practices of Catholicism. They address three areas of interest: (1) Catholics who wish to know more about the faith (2) Non-Catholics who wish to know more about the faith (3) Non-Catholics who are interested in converting to Catholicism and wish to know more about the faith in order to make an informed and faith-filled decision.

RCIA / Inquiry Classes begin in September and are held on a weekly basis. Such topics as Scripture, Liturgy, Sacraments, Christian Ministry and Catholic Devotions are among the subjects covered. Classes are presented by members of the Parish Staff and include opportunities for questions and discussion. Exact dates for the Inquiry Classes are printed in the Sunday Bulletin and Monthly Calendar.

The RCIA process is designed for those who wish to convert to the Christian Faith or who have been baptized as Christians but wish to make a profession of faith in the Catholic Church. It is a combination of the formal classes noted above and a liturgical and spiritual approach which includes participation in the Sunday liturgies. It culminates in the Rite of Baptism and Profession of Faith during the Holy Saturday Easter Vigil.

St. Jude Respect Life Committee

The St. Jude Respect Life Committee is a group of parish volunteers concerned about the protection and quality of human life from conception until natural death. Our goal is to serve, assist, and be advocates for unwed mothers and the unborn. We work to inform and involve our parish in our service activities. Our activities include: the spiritual adoption program of the unborn; periodic letter-writing on legislative issues affecting the unborn; collecting and distributing used maternity and baby items for local poor; raising funds for local crisis-pregnancy homes; bimonthly meetings and encouraging parish participation in our activities.

YOU CAN HELP by participating in prayer vigils, marches for life and life chains; script fund raising; by providing, collecting and/or distributing donated goods to local crisis-pregnancy agencies; by joining other young people in fund raising through "Kids Helping Kids"; and by helping to organize and by participating in letter writing activities and/or visits to legislators.
