Aid for Friends

St. Jude's participates in the Aid for Friends program which provides free meals to over 2,500 isolated, homebound people in the Greater Philadelphia area. Individuals and groups can participate in this life-giving, non-denominational program.

To provide meals you need to pick up some empty foil meal trays (they can be found at either entrance to the church). Fill the 3-part container with freeze-able, cooked food. Cover the tray with foil, place a label on top listing the contents, put both of these in a plastic bag (all except the foil are provided), and tie with a twistie. After you freeze the meal at home, bring it to the Aid For Friends freezer in the convent garage. (Call the rectory or Lucy Jones for the keypad code to enter the garage.)

When the freezer at St. Jude's is filled, volunteers bring the meals to areas where the meals are needed. Each person in need is visited once a week by a volunteer who brings 7 nutritious Aid For Friends meals.

Feeding the hungry is a great way to serve the Lord! There's no commitment to provide any particular number of meals, everyone just does what they can. Some people use food left over from a family meal while others cook a special meal just to package for Aid For Friends. St. Jude's should be proud to know that our freezer fills up often due to the generosity of individual parishioners as well as several groups that cook for Aid For Friends on a regular basis.

Blessed Sacrament Guild

This society is composed of members of the parish who volunteer their services to clean and decorate the Church. Presently, those assisting consist of four teams, taking monthly turns on Friday or Saturday mornings, to help vacuum, dust and clean the various rooms and furnishings of the church and chapel.

We are always in need of additional volunteers. If you are able to assist in any way for any length of time, please contact the Rectory or come some Friday or Saturday morning and introduce yourself.

Bread, Peace & Justice Committee

This ministry is involved with collecting and delivering perishable food for use by the needy. Unsold perishable food is collected from several stores in the area by members of the ministry and stored in freezers in the St. Jude Convent garage. The food is then delivered by members to several organizations that support the poor, the homeless, and the needy of our area.

Our thanks to the local merchants who currently support us, including: Clemens Markets, Genuardi’s Markets, and the Seven-Eleven stores in Hatfield and Chalfont. Facilities we currently deliver to include: the Salvation Army, Mother Teresa’s Nuns, the Doylestown Center, the New Britain Food Larder, and organizations in Norristown supporting the poor Hispanic and homeless of that area. Please call the contact person if you would like to assist in this very rewarding endeavor.

Parish Bereavement Ministry

The St. Jude parish bereavement ministry offers support to individuals and families experiencing loss and grief because of the death of a loved one. Concerned and dedicated parishioners offer prayer and assistance, phone calls, home visitation, and follow-up contacts to the bereaved. The Parish also makes instructional and educational reading and workshops available to grieving children and adults.

We also provide or we are planning a lending library for adults and children; adult bereavement evening of instruction; memorial Mass for the deceased; celebration of life Mass for children who are grieving; and, retreat days for children.

Our goal is to lend a warm touch to those who mourn, in imitation of the gentle healing love of Christ.

St. Jude Outreach Fund

Responding to Jesus’ call to serve Him by serving the least of His brothers and sisters, the Parish of St. Jude in Chalfont, Pennsylvania has established a Parish Outreach Fund (the Fund).

The Fund solicits donations solely to support parish families in dire financial straits. Generally, these families will not have enough money for food or other essentials. They may also be in danger of having their utilities turned off, losing their home due to delinquent rent or mortgage payments, or losing their means of transportation.

Generally, the condition of the parish family warranting such assistance will have come about from the loss or long-term incapacity of a major wage earner or other tragedy significantly impacting the family.
