The Mass is the highest form of Prayer in the Catholic Faith and the Altar Server fulfills an important role in the celebration of the Eucharist. Altar Servers have been with us a long time. The Bible tells us of the story of Samuel, a young boy in the Old Testament. He Served in the Temple with a priest name Eli. Even as a young boy, Samuel was called by God. Like Samuel, God continues to call the young to serve at the Altar of God. Here God is asking for special dedication and service. Are you that young youth whom God is calling? If so, the efforts of our 5th to 8th grade boys and girls are suggested. St. Jude Parishioner, both full time school and part time students from PREP are welcome. Contact: The Rectory at (215) 822-0179 To meet the liturgical needs of our day, Vatican II emphasized the key notion of lay participation and dignity: "Mother Church earnestly desires that all the faithful should be led to that full, conscious and active participation in liturgical celebrations which is demanded by the very nature of the liturgy." Each minister is commissioned for a three year term and is selected by the Pastor from among those parishioners who distinguish themselves in their Christian life, faith and morals. In the parish of St. Jude, the Special Ministers of the Eucharist unite the community in church with the elderly, the sick, the retirement homes and the shut-ins by bringing the Eucharist to their homes. They also assist in distributing the Host and the Cup at Mass and other Eucharistic services. Special Ministers are appointed by the Cardinal for a three year term. They are duly instructed and urged to distinguish themselves by Christian life, faith, and morals, striving to be worthy of this great office, cultivating devotion to the Holy Eucharist and acting as an example to the other faithful by piety and reverence for this most holy sacrament of the altar. The idea of a parish prayer chain began some time ago, in the mid 1990’s, when several parishioners were requesting prayers for two accident victims. One involved a parishioner and the other a community resident. So began “Our Lady’s Prayer Chain”. At this time, the ministry includes 17 active members who receive prayer requests via a “phone chain” and begin praying immediately. There are also 15 additional members who pray daily for intentions published on a “prayer list” which is updated periodically. The ministry also offers praise and thanksgiving for prayers answered, and for the souls of the faithful departed. Contact:

Periodically, the Parish encourages parishioners and others to participate in a pilgrimage to a local shrine, such as St. John Neumann, St. Katherine Drexel or Padre Pio. Contact: Lynn Giambanco at 215-997-1212 if you would like to join us.
Men and women (who have received the sacrament of Confirmation) are selected by the Pastor to serve as readers for our various liturgical celebrations. Individuals who have experience in public speaking are most encouraged to share in this ministry. Contact:
Each Tuesday at 7:30PM, a small group gathers in the chapel for an hour in prayer. Together, we discuss a Scriptural theme, meditate on it and pray the words. Recent themes have included, "Heaven; The Heart's Deepest Longing""; The Church and Sin and Scandal"; "The Synod"; and, "The Incarnation." We have also done novenas: "Return to the Lord," for loved ones who have left our faith and inactive Catholics; and, "The Holy Spirit in the Life of the Church." Our gathering also includes evening prayer for the Church (the Liturgy of the Hours), praying for ourselves, others and their intentions, and Benediction. Contact: Rev. Mr. Claude Granese (215) 822-6012
