Parish Survey Results

In December 2011 the Search Committee conducted a survey to find out what qualities St. Luke’s congregation desired in a new Rector, the congregations’ current likes and dislikes of the church, and their vision of the church. The survey was distributed to 38 households; 21 individual responses were received.

Most members have been attending St. Luke’s for over 30 years. The strong sense of community and family church is what keeps members coming back to St. Luke’s. However, as the congregation becomes older, there is a very strong desire and need to attract not only new members to the church, but younger members.

The majority of the congregation prefers a more formal style of worship (i.e. RITE I). While the congregation appreciates the traditional worship style, most would like to see Sunday service held earlier than 11:00AM, and additional worship services such as Morning Prayer or midweek services. Everyone that responded would like to have youth and adult religious education classes implemented, as well as more outreach programs.

One hope of holding more outreach programs is to give St. Luke’s more of a presence in the community. The congregation would like the next minister to more outgoing, accessible, and visible in the surrounding communities. If the next Rector is known throughout the community, it is hoped that more people would be attracted to St. Luke’s.

From the open-ended survey responses, many members of the church provided ideas on ways to attract new members. Some thoughts are to have more family focused activities during the Monthly Suppers, participate in local communities activities such as the Remington Fireman’s Parade, coordinate activities with other local churches, etc... Being more involved in the community and having more activities will show perspective members that St. Luke’s is not only a place for traditional worship, but a place where families can have fun.

In order for our church to grow and move forward, the congregation needs have trust and faith in our new Rector, including the vision he/she has for St. Luke’s. We need our next Rector to be a strong spiritual leader and a compassionate Shepherd of their flock.
