I finished this project in August 2011. Didn't keep track of the time I put into it, but it was alot. Decided to rebuild the cabinet while reusing only the solid wood pieces from the original. I realize this may sound blasphemous to the arcade purist and I like to keep things as original as possible but it was beat up pretty bad and repainted an ugly color, so that overweighed any intention towards originality. Not to mention that there were some beautiful solid oak/ash rails under that hideous paint. So, I had some fun and transformed a busted up 1960 shuffle bowler into a nice looking piece of furniture while holding on to some of the original look and feel.
I reconstructed the bowling pin board, stripped down, cleaned and rebuilt all the score reels and steppers, redesigned the hood, and rebuilt the cabinet. The alley rails, front legs, backglass frame and backbox trim are all from the original game. I needed to replace some internal components including a few score reels and coils, but for the most part everything was in decent shape - just needed a thorough cleaning. Was able to find the necessary parts at PBResource.com as well as pinballsalvage.com. Rich at Pinball Salvage was great to deal with and very fair on pricing. Anyone who has done business with PBResource knows that they are great to deal with as well.
