Notes:
- Since I was planning on painting the cabinet, I wanted to avoid using
screws, so all the joints were made using wood biscuits and glue. 2x3s were
used along major structural seams for reinforcement.
- I used a router with a hole cutting jig to cut all the oversized holes
- The leaf switch holders that I found were for a metal control panel
so I had to cut them down so they worked with the 3/4" mdf. I used a
bandsaw jig (pic #13) to accomplish this.
- Picture #15 shows an LED assembly that I made to replace the bulb
that came with the trackball.
- For the CP, I first drilled all the button and trackball holes in
the mdf (pic #16), then used a router to cut the holes and route the edge
in the Lucite so it was a perfect match. After the Lucite was finished, I
went back and finished the mdf to accommodate the trackball, joysticks, spinner
and lighted leaf switches.
- In the end, I wound up putting the CP graphic on top of the Lucite.
This was not my original intention (you can read about that saga in the Control
Panel section). So, all the Lucite preparation was kind of a waste of time.
