Pet Life-Spans
(These should be viewed as approximate barring illness or accidental death)


Cats
Indoor cats can live approximately 12 - 18 years on average, though there are many cats that live to be 20 years or older.

Outdoor cats don't fair as well as their indoor counterparts. Outside cats face numerous dangers from predators,
extreme weather conditions, injuries and illness to cruelties some humans inflict upon them.
Outdoor cats life expectancy is not much longer than 4 - 5 years.

Dogs
Dogs can live anywhere from 7 - 18 years. Their life spans have to do with the size of the dog as well as other factors.
Larger dogs have shorter lives than smaller dogs.

Ferrets
Ferrets life expectancy is 8 - 10 years. Though these numbers can be debated from owner to owner. Ferrets are
susceptible to various illness that can shorten the life span of your fuzzie.  Two of the main diseases are insulinoma and adrenal disease. It is wise to know what the symptoms of these diseases are and to be alert to any of them developing in your ferret.

 

Birds
Depending on the breed birds can live up to 80 years or longer.
 Be aware of how long your bird may live, you may need to consider providing for him in your will.

Exotic Pets
Chinchilla.....15 years
Sugar Glider........12 to 14 years

Reptiles
Anole  4 years
Ball Python  40 years
Bearded Dragon 7-12 years
Corn Snake  10 years
Frog  4 to 15 years
Gecko 10-20 years
Iguana 10-20 years
King Snake  20 years



Small Pets

Rats, Gerbils and Hamsters can live 2-3 years
Mice 1-4 years
Guinea Pigs 3-7 years
