Care For Orphaned Squirrels |
People who are caregivers to orphaned
animals are truly angels in disguise. It takes a special person with a lot
of love in their hearts to provide the care an orphaned animal so
desperately needs. It is not an easy life but seeing the baby grown and
healthy and off to their new forever home is what makes the effort
so worthwhile. Orphaned animal caregivers are real heroes.
A Care Giver's
Story
My name is Tania and I am an RSPCA registered kitten carer
living in Perth, Western Australia. I take in orphaned, abandoned, feral
and premature kittens. I stopped counting a while ago, but I have cared
for approximately 200 kittens in the five years I have been a kitten
foster-carer.
I aim to provide a safe, warm and nurturing environment for the kittens by
giving excellent nutrition, lots of attention, vet care, socialisation,
and, most important of all, lots of love. When the kittens are 8 weeks old
and ready, they go to their new homes.
It’s not easy feeding newborn kittens every two to three hours, especially
during the night. It’s even harder when, despite my best efforts, a kitten
is too sick to survive. For me though, the benefits far outweigh the
difficulties. When a tiny newborn kitten is given to me, still with her
umbilical cord attached and her eyes sealed shut, I know her survival is
in my hands.
It is very rewarding to see that same kitten at 8-weeks-old, playing,
purring and doing all the cute things kittens do. Of course, I become
attached to every single kitten but I am always so glad to see them going
to good homes and I know that when one is homed, it makes room for another
needy kitten.
