1/76 & 1/72 Scale AFV Museum: OTHER AXIS WWII TANKS

This represents a Romanian R-2 whose turret has been replaced by a 47mm AT gun mount. The 1/72 resin hull is made by ATTACK models from the Czech Republic, and the superstructure is made from spare Fujimi PzJg I parts. This kit originally was the TACAM R-2 (Tun autopropulsat cu afet mobile), based on the R-2 tank (which in turn was the Czech LT vz 35 tank), with a new superstructure armed with a captured Soviet ZiS-3 76mm gun. I modeled both vehicles, and can represent each by switching the superstructures (see also my kit review section).

Instructions and decals were included. The detail of the one-piece tracks is a bit indistinct. Some small parts (tow hooks, headlight) were included. The antenna is stretched sprue. ATTACK no longer makes resin kits, and has switched to injection plastic. Perhaps they will release a plastic TACAM kit.

This resin model is manufactured by US CASTS. It represents a soviet World War II T50 medium tank, captured and modified by Finnish forces. The camouflage scheme is a three-color tone used during the summer of 1943. The insignia on the turret side and hull rear is the Finnish "Hakaristi", not the German swastika.

Only a handful (63) of these vehicles were produced by Russia, and all served on the Finnish front.

OSTMODELS makes this 1/76 resin kit of the Toldi Mk. I under license of Cromwell models. The paint scheme is the three color version consisting of olive green, light ochre, and red-brown. Up to 1942 this was brush applied. The national insignia is a green Balkan cross with white borders on a red background. In 1944, a simplified white cross was adopted.

The vehicle was built by Hungary under license from Sweden (the original Swedish version was the Landsverk L60B light tank).Toldis saw action in Summer 1941 on the East Front, and suffered severe losses during the drive on the Donets river.

This tankette is a Czech R1 tankette; 35 of these were used by the Romanian Army, specifically by the 1st Royal Cavalry Division. These vehicles were left in their original Czech Olive Drab color, but had the Michael's cross applied as the national marking. This was seen in full color on the top of the vehicle, usually on the engine deck, and in simplified form on the hull sides. R1s were used in action on the Eastern Front against Soviet forces.

This resin model is made by OSTMODELS, and is a quick little assembly project.

One more OSTMODELS Romanian vehicle. This is another SP gun, this time based on captured Soviet T60 tanks. Designated TACAM T60, it was armed with a captured Soviet F22 gun. This model carries tactical ID numbers and Romanian crosses, but more often these vehicles had only the dark green camo with no tactical markings
