1/76 & 1/72 Scale AFV Museum: REFERENCES
Here's a list of books and manuals about AFVs and modelling.
I own copies of all of these, and refer to them quite frequently while researching
the vehicles that I model. Some are excellent, others have incomplete, conflicting
or erroneous information. But all have proven helpful and have been a pleasure
to read or browse through. Some I remember borrowing from the local library
as a child (so now I can relive fond memories).
One of my reference books claims that in 1943, allied troops encountered
a few Tiger Is in Tunisia which were painted light olive green, instead
of the sand brown color typical of the Afikakorps at that time. Supposedely
the green color was found to be better suited for the grassy terrain, and
this color scheme has been adopted by Revell-Germany for their early Tiger.
Well, there is now some debate over the exact color, and it may be that
a greenish sand color was present instead.
Whatever the color, these vehicles belonged to the "Schwerer Panzer
Abteilung" 501, which was reformed on the Eastern Front after being
destroyed in Africa. The model kit is made by FUJIMI.
