The Spanish company MADELMAN has been producing 1/12 scale figures for years, and their 2001: A Space Odyssey figures are highly collectible. They have also made several space-exploration related vehicles, most recently this "Lanzadera Espacial" (Space Lander). In my opinion this is the next best thing to Mattel having actually produced a lander for our Matts!
This is a BIG vehicle, rivaling the
Space Station in size. This view shows the rear access open. The rear door
consists of two panels; the top panel swings up and out and can be slid
under the roof, and the bottom panel (on which the yellow Leadworks guy
is standing) folds down.
The four legs can be positioned closer together, or far apart as shown. The landing pads can be positioned at different angles to the legs, thus the lander can make maximum surface contact for stability. One leg has an access ladder. There are also two hatches on the roof; one is shown open.
Below is a closeup of the spacious cabin interior. It can easily accommodate four astronauts; two at the control panels in front of the seats, and two behind them. In this view the bottom panel of the rear door is closed. There are movable control handles at the panel and between the seats.
One nice feature is the battery powered interior illumination! This picture
shows the cabin interior lit up; the on/off switch is actually located in
the cabin. (two 1.5 volt batteries needed - not included)
And finally we have the front view. On the top left corner is a little swivelling pin-light that is also illuminated. The vehicle comes with a large set of decals, and a new package also includes a Madelman astronaut. I got this unit used from eBay without the figure.
